Rct3 lagging

#1
Hi guys. Im not a geek in such Things at pc's. But i dont get it — my game constant lag after a while in game but my pc should run it without any troubles.
Processor amd 64 3800+ 2 ghz.
4 gb ram (800 mhz)
Xt 850 radeon graphic card 256 mb
Win 7 ultimate
Cant find the reason why i cant play it without lag...

Anyone disagrees?

I can see the reason right away. You've got a lame graphics card. How big is your disk and how much space is left on it?

Is it lame? Really.. hmm maybe youre right.
I have a 400 gb with 350 free.. and use a separate for my movies and music ect..
So a better graphic card would make it alone?

Hey Smile

When you say it lags, do you mean in general - like no matter what you're doing in the game? Or only when you're building tracks/laying things down?

Do you have any other software running while you're playing the game - maybe a media player (VLC/WIndows Media Player) or are you downloading in the background?

From what you posted about your PC I don't see why RCT would be lagging here. The only other things that I can think of are:

1. Overheating (I doubt this)
2. Malware
3. A version of DirectX which is lower than the required version
4. Outdated graphics card drivers.

Do you ever scan your computer for viruses/Trojans etc? If not then maybe it's worth a shot. If it picks something up then that could possibly be the cause.

Check your DirectX version and let us know what version you have, if it is below version 9, then please try and upgrade to a later version:
- To check Direct X version, click the Start button, then in the Search box just above the start button, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes), and a a window will open (if you are given a message with a Yes and No button, click No is it's not necessary))
- When the DxDiag window opens, in the middle, down the bottom you will have "System Information", the very last piece of info should tell you what version of Direct X you have installed, the latest version is 11 (I think), so remember that you need version 9 for this game to work properly.
- Click Exit once you've found which version you have.

If you have less than version 9, you can download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/...aspx?id=35

Now with the graphics card you can see if you have the latest driver by going to the amd website. They have a tool on there that auto detects your thing and tells you which driver you need: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/wi...etect.aspx

That's a plenty big enough drive with lots of room left on it. That's a good idea using a separate for your media.

For RCT3 you'd want a graphics card with at least 1GB of it's own memory. I'd recommend that if you're going to upgrade that you stay with ATI Radeon and get the best card that can be afforded.

Iateyourtoothpaste has given some further great advice.

Thanx for all the replies.
Sometimes i download in the background but it oftens dont affect anything. It starts after my parks getting full. Hate it. Cuz the fun is to explore your park after building it.
I have direct x 10
And the pc tells me im up to date with driver for graphic..
Maybe its the low among of memory in the graphic card. 256 mb isnt enough anymore even though it was the newest at the time i bought it 2003..

Can i get a graphic card that has 1 gb at a low cost?

What about my processor 2 ghz. Is that good enough?

Yeah, 256MB is pretty low, I kinda forgot how low it actually is to be honest. But 2Ghz Processor is fine for RCT3, I have 2.80 Ghz and I can still play almost any new game that comes out. I guess you could try adjusting the ingame resolution settings and LOD options to get some better performance in the meantime...

Lod what does that mean?

Ok so if i make the resolution 800x600 it will cun smoother because im having a less memory?

How is your graphic running it and how big is it? Any suggestions to a better but cheap card and min. Memory? (1 gb or 2 gb)

Go 2GB if you can.

You would be dissatisfied with an 800x600 display very quickly. The best thing for your game and your machine would be to match the resolutions. So you would only set the game resolution to 800x600 if your monitor was set at a resolution of 800x600.

LOD means limit of detection and is a set of settings in the RCT3 toolkit that you can adjust so that the game can display items in the game at the detail and distance you have selected. Most people play with these set at a medium setting most of the time and then when taking videos or screenshots they whack the settings up so the images look good. Trouble is, while playing a sprawling busy park that’s maxxing out your CPU, RAM, graphics card and game engine, high LOD settings can put a strain on the game engine and can cause your game to crash. To find them open the toolkit, go to graphics settings (the one with the eye icon) and tick the box to enable the display to show LOD settings. You will see two columns containing blue bars. As you will see one set of blue bars is for detail and the other for the distance the game will stop showing an object on your screen. The easiest way to find out what each column does is to turn all the blue bars in that column to the lowest setting and then fly around in your park. That will show you a lot more than I can write here.

2 gb. Ok. What about memory clock speed agp bus settings ect? Are those important or is it just 2 gb and ddr3?

Im currently using my tv 40" haha.

Excactly my point.. the pc turns heavy after having a busy park.
Are you having the same problems in game at any point or?
:-)
Thx for your help
