RE: SAHIL RESORT: Landscape Begins - AndrewKramer - Mar 25, 2013

okkkaayyy, so today I've been playing rct all day, because I had nothing better to do because it was snowing and tomorrow is our passover seder(yes I'm Jewish), and I've gotten a lot farther ahead that I thought I would. I saved my building as a structure, put it in a new park and made some improvements, and replaced the balconies and the roof, because if your facing the side where you stand on, you can see the flooring, and if you see it from the bottom, you can see right through it, which I don't get. (I used the flooring from Ralfvieh's Antique World) The improvements I made was: I made the beach longer, so the size would look good compared to the size of the building. I made the driveway longer, for the same reason. I replaced the awning, because it didn't look like the supports would withstand the size of the awning.

Thats all for now! I should be back tomorrow or the next day.

-Andrew

I'm assuming those floors you used were two-dimensional. When you have one face in sketchup, only one side shows, which was the top side. Therefor the bottom was invisible. Find a big CS rock and try to look inside it, you won't see anything.

The reason this is done is because it’s assumed the scenery will only be viewed from above or from the side facing the viewer looking at the game on his computer screen. To make the item viewable from below (or from the rear) in addition to making it viewable from the top and front would take up unnecessary cycles and increase file sizes for surfaces that won’t be seen.

Some scenery is cleverly designed in that the side facing away from one's view will disappear while the side coming around into view will appear and look like it's supposed to. A good example that comes to mind is one of the skypad supports in Vodhin's Googie Skypad set. There are two supports, one is simply a large pole and the other is a more complex 'rectangular' shape with concave sides. If you place the rectangular shape without anything on top of it and then fly around it you will see what I mean. There's really no reason we need to see the back of scenery when the front is what's needed.

I’d recommend you use ceiling tile scenery which is specifically designed to be seen from below. Many CS sets with building parts in them will include ceiling tiles.

I tried using Old Spices Fish set, but every time I try using it, the game crashes, any help?

Thanks for the advice everyone, it was very helpful!

-FlightToAtlantis, I already picked out what I'm using. I'm using Moby's Curved Concrete Floors. It was the only set I had that had tiles the size I wanted, and you couldn't see through the bottom. And personally, I didn't want to look for anymore sets, because I already have over 300. I just think my scenery lists will get overcrowded.

Okkayyy, back to the hotel!

I went to the hotel to see the new awning and take pictures. [Image: ZDTHZQB.png]

What do you guys think? Afterwards, I went to take a picture of the wider beach, I made it wider because the last one wasn't long enough.

On my way out I took a picture of the driveway.

This is really cool!
The building was probably hard.

RE: SAHIL RESORT: Landscape Begins - FlightToAtlantis - Mar 26, 2013

Totally excellent. I’d extend the roof of the awning to the right and to the left one more tile to give the awning the appearance of more length. I was considering suggesting you lower the height of the awning but in your image where the hotel is seen head on it’s just right.
The supports might look a little strong right now but they’ll soften when you place your scenery.

The beach looks great. Your new and improved lower level looks great. You’re getting there.

RE: SAHIL RESORT: Landscape Begins - FlightToAtlantis - Mar 26, 2013

I wish I could too, Azo. I'd live about two or three floors from the top level on the beach side of the building.
