A Few More Scenes - FlightToAtlantis - Jul 28, 2013 Here are a few more images for consideration by those who might be looking for landscaping or CS ideas. We might not always have the time to thoroughly search for ideas and not every search covers all ground or ends with a good idea. Not much point starting a new thread for each image so they’re all here in this one thread. All the images were found on various dates on Bing’s homepage. __________________________________________________________ This first image is of a red sand desert, presumably in the North American mid-west. RCT3 comes with red sand already but that sand doesn’t quite look like this. These cliff formations, rock formations and the scattered rockiness are startling. There is a scattered rock CS set available for download (CDN’s Scattered Rocks and Pebbles) but every time I download it the .zip file is empty. Perhaps one day someone else might make another. I’m also starting to notice some beautiful desert themed large CS pieces available but while they have realistic looking textures they’re a bit blobby in shape and still don’t quite have the same look as shown in this image. In all fairness though they probably don’t have this look because of all the polys that would be required. Bing home page 06 May 2013. __________________________________________________________ This next image is of Danxia which is located in China. I imagine it’s already possible to get these land formations in RCT3 but the landscape colours would require new terrain texture files. The most interesting thing about this photo is that it shows four different types of terrain. Bing home page 25 June 2013 __________________________________________________________ Here are the Alps in southern New Zealand. A particularly striking image because the clouds are at the bottom of the image with split-terrain mountain peaks above, realistic misty cloud CS would be needed for this park with especially huge cloud ‘pieces’ to hugely overlap the edges of the park so the park border wouldn’t be so obvious in screenshots. I would cover the terrain with snow below the clouds at the park border so it would look like clouds in the far distance in screenshots. A park like this would be dramatic, spectacular and sensational. Once the landscaping was done right I believe it would be next to impossible to screw up the park. Bing home page 28 July 2013 __________________________________________________________ A charming image taken at South Downs National Park in England. Should we wish to do so I imagine we’d already have everything we need in order to duplicate this landscape. Were I to do a park like this I would place a small family park on the outskirts of one of the villages. Photoshopping the background of any screenshots from this park would definitely be in order. Bing home page 27 July2013 __________________________________________________________ All I can tell you about this image is that it’s in the heart of Singapore. In the picture are some beautifully typical examples of European/Asian flavoured metropolitan architecture. While American cities can come up with larger structures than this I don’t think the American architects have quite this same design flair. Looking at these buildings one gets the feeling that only Fortune 500 companies would dare rent space in this district which makes me wonder what sort of a park one would put with this scenery – if one added a park at all! The CS we have already would probably go some way to beginning a park like this but I think we’d need more new sets. The first existing sets that come to mind are created by Moby (curved walls and floors) and Vodhin (girders and glass). There are also some great asphalt, traffic lighting, street lighting and vehicular sets available. It’s a shame we’ll never get a view straight up like this in RCT3. Bing home page 26 May 2013 __________________________________________________________ I thought this would be a great image to show that a desert theme need not be all dry dusty environment. This is Havasu Pano, Arizona, and Arizona is not all that far from Death Valley. I think that sometimes when some of us make a park it’s possible to be so concerned with comments about reality in our parks that we may overcompensate and come up with results that will not be questioned. Old Spice and n7 are so terrific at making fabulous trees that trees like this are probably not too far away in our future. This is also a good illustration to show the possibility of using rock formations underwater. In the middle left of the image is a broad but shallow waterfall. I think sometime I’ll experiment in a sandbox to see what the minimum height is for an in-game waterfall. Of course, Spice’s waterfalls are easier to place but they only come in single tile widths. There are rock formations here that, if duplicated in CS, would require huge poly counts. Bing home page date recent but unknown __________________________________________________________ This image is here only because it shows ice formations on the water surface. I don’t believe we yet have an iceberg, growler or pack-ice CS set. Bing home page 25 July 2013 __________________________________________________________ This image, a place called North Malé, will show that we don’t have to consider spectacular cityscapes dripping with concrete & glass or tremendous swathes of forest & meadow to make an interesting park. Although my island is bigger than this one, this is the feel I was going for when I began Marina Towers Park and Spa Resort http://forums.rctgo.com/thread-8248-post-87387.html#pid87387. I hope to eventually have my park landscaped as lushly as the island in this image. Right now I’m doing more park development to be sure everything I want is included and that all is where it needs to be before I take the same care with landscaping. One does not want to be placing 2,000 trees and finding out later that 500 of them need to be removed because something else wants adding to the park. Bing home page 11 July 2013 __________________________________________________________ And I think we can end on the same small scale. I never checked to see where this image was taken and I first thought it might be in the Pacific Northwest, probably near Vancouver or Seattle but there aren’t enough conifers for that so I’d guess this is in the Vermont or Maine area, otherwise known as the Atlantic Northeast. Again I believe this is already attainable with the landscaping tools and scenery we presently have. Vodhin’s Vermont scenery immediately comes to mind. Were I to do something like this I would consider making this a large but narrow park bordering the entire lake. Bing home page 24 July 2013 RE: A Few More Scenes - FlightToAtlantis - Jul 31, 2013 Here's today's Bing image, Multnomah Falls in Columbia River Gorge, Oregon, U.S.A. I would have guessed it was in the Orient but I would have guessed wrong. I believe when I create my first steeply terraformed park I'll place an area like this in it. This is a terrific location to put an arched span and there are some great vegetation, bridge and wall CS sets that immediately come to mind to build a bridge like this, for landscaping and for theming. RE: A Few More Scenes - FlightToAtlantis - Aug 9, 2013 Here’s the most delightful image of a lake, Abraham Lake in Alberta. The autumn trees and fogginess really set a mysterious intriguing mood. If I were to make this landscape in RCT3 I wouldn’t know whether to use scattered rock CS or pebble path cover on the ground! This was Bing’s home page image from yesterday.
