Are you switching from Win XP to 8.1 now? - Frankedj - Mar 22, 2014 Since they will stop releasing security updates for XP I am going to switch things over to 64 bit Win 8.1 from 32 bit XP. I waited as long as possible even though I had built this computer with 64 bit in mind so it would be ready when I made the move. My new OS disc should be here in a few days and I have already backed up everything I don't want to lose on one of my other hard drives. I'll finally get to add in the other 4 GB of RAM I have had sitting around since I built this tower. I'll probably take it up to 16 GB if I can find matching sticks. This is the tower I used. Thermaltake Level 10 GT. It is huge. It has 5 side mounted hot swap drive bays, lots of bells and whistles with all RGB LED lighted fans. This was the first time I splurged on a case. Will be doing a clean install on a Solid State Drive(SSD). These drives can actually go underwater while not powered and still work if you open it up and dry it out fully. I learned the hard way. I'll have to re-install all of my programs but things should move much quicker. My i5 CPU normally runs at 3.4 GHz but I have it over clocked to 4.2 GHz with a giant V8 Cooler Master sitting on top of it. Anyone else on here build their own computers? Wise choice Frankedj I have the same, only in white:     I think, they are expensive, but an investment for life It takes a while to know about all the tech-stuff, which cpu works best to which mainboard, and so on. At the moment i'm using XP 32bit, too. And i think i also switch to 8.1 in the future. Everybody I know both inside and outside the industry agree that XP was the best version of Windows. I understand Windows 7 is only Windows Vista with all the ‘expansion packs’ – that Windows Vista is in fact only Windows 7 released before it’s time – sort of like Theme Park Studio. I understand Windows 8 is a drastic change in how Windows works with almost everything set up differently. Someone once compared it to already being used to Office 2003 and then trying to get into Office 2010. As of this writing the way I see it now means the furthest I’ll ever go will be Windows 7 but by the time I’m ready to make that change there’ll be a Windows 10 ready for release. Set up my computer today and am slowly learning Windows 8.1. Most of the computers now have touch screen options, so I think that is one reason they have the icons the way they do. I hate touch screens. So I figured out how to get it to that and to get rid of all of that stuff on the desktop. I've installed RCT3 Platinum and installing Theme Park Studio again and No Limits. So for me for now I am taking back what I said about windows 8.1 previously. I guess you never really know until you try it your self.
