the "Let's teach spine stuff" thread - spine - Sep 3, 2014

Ok, so I got the game, I got some CS and an eagerness to learn the mechanics so I can eventually make some pleasing parks.

Below is a quick video of what I've done so far, just about bugger all, but in this thread I'll be asking for some help and updating whenever there's some progress.

All I ask is for some constuctive critisism along the way. As nothing is set in stone, I'd rather do things right than cut corners and not get into bad habits.

thanks

spine

Well, actually it doesn't look so bad. And i see that you play around with some CSO's.

The use/placement of the patchcovers is good, only suggestion would be, that only the mainpath (middlepieces) are peepable or coverd with invisible pathes. The sidewalks/bordersection should be used for deco and not for peeps. Because if you place benches/shrubs/vegetation on it the peeps glitch through it and that looks bad.

A monorail should be build or stay on one specific level, the same counts for railroads if you want to use it later.
Why? Because the speed gets really low on every slope hill part and in real these transportrides stay on one level.
If you have a mountain/hill area and you want a transport to the top of it too, than you can use a chairlift.

The circle pathway with the plaza in the middle and the observation tower is an good idea and could be nice in the end.

The whole terraforming is a bit to heavy for a starter like you i think. I would suggest to use more smaller hills. Especially with CSO use the terraforming can be end up terrible and annoying way.
Because the terraforming can destroy/deform your buildings/structures and pathwork/pathcovers on terraformed land isn't easy infact of the confroming. Some CSO's aren't conformed to the landscapeing.

So it could be good idea t build your first CSO-Park on flatland with only an little amount of terrforming here and there. Than you can try out how it works and which problems sometimes happens.

For videos with your voice in it you should decrease the ingame sound or set it off.
At the moment your voice is only a bit louder than the ingame sound.
So if you want to explain your work with a video the ingame sound isn't needed and can be set off.

Looks like it's just me and you Cheleste, hopefully someone else will chip in when they pass by.

Thoughts on Monorail station?
Later on when I decided on a style I wack down some benches and extra stuff, still a bit early for all the small touches yet I think

Bollox, I just deleted my previous reply by editing instead of adding a new reply.

Oops

Have update the above post with a quick look at the first draught of the monorail station

Hmm, so I guess you can add a new post, only edit the previous one? wtf

RE: the "Let's teach spine stuff" thread - Cheleste - Sep 4, 2014

Monorail-Station looks generic and ok.
Infact that this is only an transport ride it needs nothing special for an station.
Only if stations are in an themed area, than the station should be represent/fits to the theming.

With the doors it gives an realistic aspect, that good.
Some Windows could be added to avoid electricity costs if you are inside Wink
and as Silvarret recommend in some of his videos, adding windows are allways an good idea to bring some details on it. And windowas are nice, too. Smile

Side-Info:
You can use the Coaster-Station-Parts for Monorails (and other tracked rides), too. So you can cover up this original ugly style of it.
The floors must go than one heigh up to fit.
Only problem is that the peeps glitches through the floor, but this problem we have on custom coaster stations, too.

I find it awesome that you are going out of your way to make sure you learn the game the right way, kudos to you.

Small problem

I had some water in an area and removed it to do some editing, Now I can't fill it back up with water?
Can someone explain how water works? I dropped some peeps down there while moving a path, but Im sure I picked them all back up if that has anything to do with it?

Head Scratcher

First off, this little platform with the observation tower looks really nice Smile

Well, i think that you, evertime you want to place/add water there, you click only one of the CSO's, and not an landscape part.
If i see this right you digged out an square whole and coverd it on the edges with round wall sections to become an round look.
So maybe i could work if you delete an wall section, to become the landscape wall.
Than you can click on it and the water should be there. Smile

I don't checked it out by myself, so it's only a theory from me.

Soo long, Cobra Cool

Edit:

I checked it out by myself, that's what came out:

1) on this position, the curved wall, i couldn't add water into it

2) on this position, straight wall piece, it works
(maybe RCT-3 knows that there is an landscape wall behind the scenary)

Maybe this information could be useful.

looking good. i havent read every thing because im lazy but to get the water back, just remove a wall and add the water, then replace the wall when the water is back

RE: the "Let's teach spine stuff" thread - spine - Sep 5, 2014

SOLVED, I had a rouge "invisibel doodad path somewhere in the bottom of the pool.

for info, deleting the walls didnt work, and now the invisible path is gone I can add water even with the walls there. They are CS walls though, game walls may be different.

Thanks for the suggestions

Tonights efforts

going to have to change the stairs, they are far too heavy
