I noticed your note about wanting to "download a bunch of custom scenery" I am not sure what you are looking for but here are a few good sites to start with:
The Custom Scenery Depot - I would say most use this website as their primary resource for downloading custom scenery (cs), custom tracks (ctr), custom flat rides (cfr). You can search by author or by what you are specifically looking for.
