Bad Custom Content? - siouxdax - Apr 19, 2015

Hello all:
Firstly, yes, I have read exactly where to place my custom content, but just in case: in ".../Style/Themed" I place the folders which contain ovl files and other folders. So, if I'm wrong, please correct me, but this is what I've read where to place them.

After adding the custom content, I started the game, went to a new sandbox park, and found the new items. When I attempted to select a new item, the game froze, and I had to kill the process. It did this with every folder of custom content I added, and they weren't all from the same creator. I tested this by only adding one CC folder at a time, and each one crashed the game. None of the content was downloaded here. I downloaded from a different site, before remember I could get it here.

So, any reason why it would crash after testing several different custom content items? Any help is much appreciated.

PS: It's been so, so long since I've been on this forum, and so long since I've played RCT3. Somehow I got a wild hair to start up the game and really build a nice detailed park! Smile

Some custom scenery items have folders inside folders. If you put all of the folders into your style/themed folder it may crash the game. Make sure you are only putting the custom scenery file in the style/themed folder. For example make sure there is not a read me file or screenshot inside the folder. Sometimes you may have to take out certain folders and place them in different areas. A good example is Fisherman's Enchanted Forest. This folder has a structure folder, the style folder, and the particles that go into the particle effects folder in your atari/style folder. If you were to put all of these in your style/themed folder it would crash the game.
If you let me know which custom scenery item you are using, I might be able to help more. You may have to delete the cso you installed originally and download it again and then re-install it.

Okay. For example I've got a folder called "Spanky's Hedges & Topiaries". The attached pic shows the contents of that folder on the left. On the right is the contents of the folder on the left, also named "Spanky's Hedges & Topiaries".

I was able to download the file from:
http://www.customscenerydepot.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=1645

I extracted the file using peazip http://peazip.sourceforge.net/
if you don't have this program download it using the peazip.org link only.
I use peazip all the time and it's free. It opens up rar files to.
After you extract the file you should get 1 folder called SPANKY-Hedges & Topiaries.
Place that folder into your Atari/Style/Themed folder.
Do not remove any of the inside contents of the folder.
See Screenshot
I hope that helps.
Note: I'm on a pc if you are on a mac I'm not sure how to help.Let me know if this works for you.

RE: Bad Custom Content? - siouxdax - Apr 25, 2015

Okay. Firstly, I apologize for taking so long to get back to this. I think I know what happened. When I unzipped this particular custom content, I renamed the "top" folder, as I'm very particular about proper typography. I've renamed lots of custom content for other games and never had any issues, so naturally I thought that renaming the top folder wouldn't have any affect.

I've only tested this with this particular download, so I will test others, and if I have any issues I will post here. And thank you all for your help.

RE: Bad Custom Content? - siouxdax - Apr 29, 2015

OK. Update. I resolved the issue with the Spanky's Hedges & Topiaries. I added two more folders, which were fountain packs. No problems there. But I did have an issue with one, "Jonnyears Hedge Set". It crashed the game upon trying to select it, in game. I made sure it was added in the same way as the others that do work. Not sure what to think about that. Hmm....

RE: Bad Custom Content? - Cheleste - Apr 29, 2015

Well, i test it by myself and it works without any problems. Everything of Jonny's Hedge Set works ingame.

I download it from the CS-Depot, as allways if a cso/ctr is available there.
http://www.customscenerydepot.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=2693

I would try it again and download it again from the CS-Depot. Sometimes it could happen that a download will be corrupted. This happens really rarely and normally if its downloaded from mediafire.
But normally, every, or better most uploads on the CS-Depot are in a good shape and aren't corrupted.

So i can't say what happens to your version of the set, but i can say it works 100% fine on my RCT3.
