What I'm really after is terrain that fits snuggly against the ride, for example mountain coasters, big thunder mountain.  Is it best to build the track and then model the terrain around it, or to model the terrain and then build the coaster. First I build the mountain and then I build the rollercoaster, and then I adjust the mountain to what my coaster needs, if that makes sense. Let's visualize. I start off with the hill forming tool to create.. a hill. Next I build my coaster up to the first part on the hill. I want to do an overbanked curve over a straight part of the hill. I raise the coaster to the level I want the overbanked curve and end it just before it goes over my hill. Next I raise the hill to just under coaster level, and then I flatten it using the flatten terrain tool. Next I build my overbanked curve and go back and forth until it completely fits just right. There may be easier ways, but this works for me. Sometimes it takes building the coaster to a roughed in landscape, pulling the terrain up in small sections (3 to 5 squares) to the coaster (it will stop just below the track) and then disassembling the coaster piece by piece as you fine tune the terrain underneath. This way you can keep the track doing what you want it to. You need to enter a mountain through a tile that is raised at least 4 clicks. Be sure to leave room enough to smooth out several tiles away from the track to keep it from looking too blocky.  And remember...all these rides you've seen have creators who went through exactly what you are experiencing now. It takes time and patience but if you love this game like we do you'll be glad you made the effort! I'm realizing that HairyLoco has given almost the same advice so...what he said!☺ |
