Bankrupt Atari? - rct3x - Feb 12, 2006

The 1st news of 2006, and its not looking too good!

Atari posted a 35% decline in sales, in the important Christmas period. Atari have also announced that CFO Diane Baker has resigned, to peruse a new opportunity. It also seems that HSBC have cut off the companies credit line! So what effect will this have on Rollercoaster
Tycoon 3?

So, what do you think will happen with RCT3 and Atari?

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - Endoftheworld - Feb 12, 2006

They might not have more expansions to RCT3 and it is slim that we will be seing an RCT4.

BTW I have no idea what your saying in your post, I just know it doesn't sound good.

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - G-Force Junkie - Feb 12, 2006

RCT3 is a big seller, so i think they may do one more for us....

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - Ryan Gordon - Feb 12, 2006

I think they counted on rct3 to pull them out of the swamp, and rushed the releases. Which in my opinion, a bad choice. Look where they are now!

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - G-Force Junkie - Feb 12, 2006

i agree, more playtesting would of sufficed, maybe there wouldnt be as many bugs as there are eh.....still, it can only get better.

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - Beelitz - Feb 13, 2006

I don't know what this means for RCT3 or 4, but seeing Atari down in the dirt to stay seems impossible. Wasn't Atari the first one to bring gaming consoles to out doors? They were rushing those expansions and b/c of that I can't get certain things to go normal. Anyways, Good luck to you Atari!!!!

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - Shaun Allsop - Feb 13, 2006

I read somthing about this in the sun news paper on saturday:

'' atari, one of the most famous names in computer games, looked doomed last night as bankers pulled the plug. the ailing firms main lender hsbc vetoed any more credit after atari broke conditions attached to its existing loans.

ataris finance cheif diane baker quit - and the new york based companey admitted 'substantial doubt' about it continuing as a going concern.
ataris parent company, french software firm infogrames, was forced to re-state its accounts.

cheif executive bruno bonnell said: ''we will do everything in our potential to guarantee atari goes on'' shares in atari listed on the us nasdaq exchange, fell 12 per cent in early trading yesturday (friday). atari used to make its own consoles, but quit to concerntrate on software in 1996 after its jaguar gizmo flopped, The company was founded in 1972. It was one of the first to launch home versions of hits like space invaders, asteroids and pac man. more recently it published best selling games based on the matrix film trilogy.''

I hope we dont see atari loss its battle against there finance problems. they have produced some great games including the rct3 series. It would be a great shame as it would most likely mean that we wont be seeing rollercoaster tycoon games.

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - G-Force Junkie - Feb 13, 2006

Chris Sawyer is the main man for RCT3.Its his games so i dont think we have to worry to much.

RE: Bankrupt Atari? - SMAN1 - Feb 14, 2006

It certainly doesn't look good! However to look on the bright side there is still a chance that Atari a) won't go under or at worst b) the liquidators realise that they have a big seller in the RCT series and Atari sell the code and patent to another games developer. I don't think any man in the money seat at Atari or at any liquidator would watch a money spinner go to the cutting floor

By the way ...hello!
