RCT3 And Windows Vista. - Shaun Allsop - Jun 12, 2006

Okay Microsoft has released there 2nd beta for windows vista. The only draw back is that it will install as a new os on the pc so im goning to have to spend ages backing everything up onto disk, So I have a few questions

1) I mostly play RCT in a window so I can use Msn and somtimes the net at the same time, Has anybody got a genuine version of windows vista running on there system and does it create any lag/ pausing issues when playing RCT in a window?

Im asking because I know windows vista has allot of 3d and transparent/glass effects so I know this would take quite a bit of memory up.

2) I did a complete fresh install a few weeks ago and reinstalled RCT, soaked and wild. I backed up all the folders contained in mydocuments/RCT3 and zipped them and put them on a disk. After I installed RCT and the exspansions I unzipped the mydocuments/RCT3 folders and replaced the ones that were in the my documents folder,
Everytime I go to open somthing up or save somthing in RCT it comes up with an error saying "unable to read files, Check weather the disck is full ect ect" It doesnt cause any problems as im still able to save and load games but Im just woundering why I get these errors.

3) I have downloaded pritty much every custom sceanery pack out there for RCT. I didnt want to spend ages downloading them all again and I know some of the older packs have dead links, Will it work if I just zip all the custom sceanery packs into one folder (all packs still contained in there own folder) and unzip them to styles/themed folder once I have reinstalled RCT?

Im sorry if any of these questions have been answerd before but I want to make shore that I do things right to save any misshaps.

Thanks
Shaun

1) RCT3 should work as normal but incase i would put backwards compatability to windows XP

2) Im quite unsure but when i reinstalled windows xp i backed up everything (in ZIP) and once reinstalled everything (RCT3 with e/packs) i updated the game then unzipped the files then i started rct3 and all the files worked. Smile

3) Custom scenery would be alright but make sure you check after you Zip them that they are extractable

Why not just create a seperate partition and load vista on that?

RE: RCT3 And Windows Vista. - RCS2K4 - Jun 13, 2006

RCT:3 would not load for me at all under the X64 version of Vista. The X86 version was almost trouble free tho, altho I culd nt get it to run in a window (Proberly an issue with SLI rather than Vista)

I have windows vista the beta 2 and it works perfectly fine. There is no difference in xp and windows vista. But since they are making new graphics cards which will be releasing at the end of the year or begining of next year when vista the actual program comes out, these graphics cards may or maynot support these older games. BUt they should at least. But yea, i play RCT3 a lot on Windows Vista and it works very fine. There is i have noticed a slight lag because it is all based off of 3d look, so when you run it it runs fine but when the park starts to fill up, it seems to lag a bit sooner maybe by 100 guests sooner. Hope that helped! Also on those other questions, did you install Vista beta 2 first or xp, and then reinstalled all the add ons? Also i am running windows vista beta 2 x32 version. So i have not experimented with all the other versions of it. But i have 1 gegabyte of memory so it doesn't seem to be a problem with all the memory. And no there has not been any issues with it since i've been playing. A big bummer with these betas it though a lot of stuff doesn't work. Like a lot of drivers for printers or mp3 players or anything like that does not currently work since these companies have not been using vista yet since it hasn't been released yet, so it will be ahile before all these drivers are fixed. Like Age of Empires 3 had a color problem when i wanted to change the graphics options and ended up gettin all weird in one view but in the full on hard graphics which my graphics card can't support worked completely fine as of how colors go.

I was told the other day from someone at work, that vista will eliminate bootleg copies of it, as was the case with XP, is this true? also i read in a mag a few weeks ago that microsoft have stopped doing online updates for windows 96-ME...as they gradually wanted to phase out the older running systems.Bit of a downer for those using the old programs!

What do u mean by bootleg? SO far, RCT3 works perfectly fine with vista. I am beta testing it right now and it works perfectly fine. There is no errors or anything. The only downside is a couple programs don't work on here. Like Nero and Rhapsody. But RCT3 works fine. I don't know what's wrong with the other programs. Well get back to me on the bootleg and i will be able to answer better.
