My next custom scenery - buckwilde - Oct 25, 2012 Is going to be a set of dormers. This one is a spire dormer and fits into the flat-topped spire I made. ![]() There's still a lot of detail left to do. Fun, fun. RE: My next custom scenery - Blu - Oct 25, 2012 DEAR LORD. Have you checked the poly count on that thing? Those spheres at the top of the dormer look almost perfect. RE: My next custom scenery - buckwilde - Oct 25, 2012 Yup, the dormer itself is at 72. I don't think I'll be able to use my ballistrade, tho. That's why I stuck it off to the side. I do love making spheres. RE: My next custom scenery - Kinderly - Oct 25, 2012 Yay! More dormers I can add to my collection! RE: My next custom scenery - Ardy - Oct 25, 2012 WOW! You are amazing Buckwilde. Even though I can make CS, I am still a CS newbie ![]() The bad thing is that I use the free Google Sketchup, so I can't do much AT ALL! All I can do is make squares and circles ![]() RE: My next custom scenery - buckwilde - Oct 25, 2012 Demos, I made that with the free Google Sketchup. It's nothing but a bunch of squares and circles. Making a sphere is easy, sweets. You make a circle, flat on the ground. Draw two vertical lines on each end of it. Draw another circle, vertically between the two lines. Then use the follow me on one edge and rotate your mouse in a circular direction. Like Houdini, you gots yoself a sphere. It just takes practice. When you log onto sketchup there are some really good tutorial videos. Give them a watch and pay attention to the follow me tools and the offset tools. That above was made with just those two additional tools, the circle and the square. Have fun! Kinderly, I flove that you like architectural elements perhaps as much as I, lol. Have fun! RE: My next custom scenery - Ardy - Oct 25, 2012 Thanks for the advice ![]() RE: My next custom scenery - RCTgoMatthew - Oct 26, 2012 Ha, nice work ma' friend! ![]() RE: My next custom scenery - callumiscool - Nov 8, 2012 I'm sorry buckwilde, but the dormer there isn't 72 polys. The sphere itself if you made it with a 24 sided polygon would be around 700 polygons. And there's 2 spheres. Also the design under the spheres would be extremely high as well. The whole dormer in itself would be over 1000 polygons. You need to revise your modeling techniques, and try using alphas. Don't use the circles in sketchup, there 24 sided. try using a polygon and set sides to maybe 6. ![]() Another tip ![]() Good luck! ![]() EDIT: ![]() In-Game, you won't see much difference with the 705 poly sphere and this 54 poly one. MASSIVE difference in polys though. RE: My next custom scenery - Blu - Nov 8, 2012 I do see a big difference but you could just use alpha textures. |
