"...it seems a very quiet forum these days"
Well, this game is fifteen years old, archaic by computer standards. I'm surprised, and gratified, a site this large still exists for it. I've seen too many sites for older games either slide into disuse or disappear entirely (RIP NOLFgirl).
Can't get $4.50 for a coaster? My average coasters are $7+, more exciting or intense coasters I charge $9.50 and the guests are saying it's a good value (charge the full $10 and too many guests say they can't afford it). Even the wimpy Towering Coaster is good for $5. Litter and vomit at -20 isn't bad, but it is so easy to keep it at 0 (I'm apoplectic if mine goes to -12).
"There's 4 stations and that means there's 4 different control boxes where the mechanic does his work"
The game sees the entire ride as a whole, so when it breaks down the nearest mechanic to any station will repair it there. Not assigning patrol zones means the law of averages will have all your mechanics on one side of the park and everything on the other side will break down, then you listen to the inspector screaming "you need more mechanics!" every couple of minutes til one of them strolls over and starts repairs; same with janitors, guests will be complaining of a filthy park while all the janitors are doing a conga line a mile away. I just assign zones as I hire staff; if the entire paths are already laid out I either use "no entry" signs or just delete a path tile here and there to keep guests out of undeveloped areas.
But I agree, games with too much micromanaging are no fun; I still prefer SimCity 2000 to SimCity 3000 since in the former you could delegate much work to your advisors while in the latter you were constantly pausing the game to attend to some nit-picky issue.
