Terrain Coaster inspired by Kennywood's Thunderbolt!

#1
Here is A Wooden Roller Coaster Inspired by Kennywood's Thunderbolt! Roller Coaster. Built in 1968 by Andy Vettel, The thunderbolt! uses most of the track from the 1924 "Pippin", built by John A. Miller. In 1974, the New York Times called it "The Best Roller Coaster in the World". Using 1958 NAD "Century Flyer" trains, the coaster is unique in having it's first drop directly from the station into a ravine that is natural to Pittsburgh's hilly river area, before climbing the 70' chain lift. Thunderbolt's Longest drop of 95' is just before arriving back at the station.

This RCT coaster is as close as i could make it; The track is 300 feet longer than real, ride time is 1:20, about 30 seconds shorter than real. max drop is 84' compared to the real 95'. Max speed is 59.55 mph, compared to the real 55 mph.

you need to have Jim's Classic Cars CT to use this coaster, available at

Comparing your design with aerial views of the actual track, I do see some similarities between the two; enough to recognize that one is a replica of the other. The diagonal portions are a bit awkward, but that isn't unusual when attempting to recreate a coaster in any RCT game. (You may want to paint your design the appropriate colors too to avoid throwing people off! Wink)

If you're interested in recreating existing coasters, I would suggest NoLimits over RCT3. It's not as user-friendly as the RCT series, but you can customize your tracks to an entirely new level. For one, you aren't limited to using turns of three preset radii.

Thanks Terry! Smile i like what No Limits can do, but i'm not really interested in recreating RCs, I just like playing with RCT3. I do wish RCT3 had more track pieces to work with, tho.
