When I started out I played NRG, Euro, Funk, House, Disco, Techno, Electronica, Pop, Rap, Alternative and anything else that had a good beat. I was taught on a pair of 1200's and years later picked it up using CD's in under 60 seconds. Eventually I worked with MP3's when they became the thing.
We used to have to manually count the BPM's for every song. Now the DJ software does it for you as well as auto setting the pitch control. When I do play around with mixing now I use Virtual DJ.
Graphic design was also something I had to learn. I worked at the largest and oldest Mom & Pop owned musical instrument store here starting when I was in my late 20's. The owner handed me a copy of Adobe Illustrator and told me to figure it out in less than a week and make him a full page phone book ad. I ended up doing all the graphics work for his two business'. At that job I was the sound, light and DJ guy, graphic designer, visual merchandiser & store designer. He had me design the layout for the new 10,000 sq. ft. store he had built. I had a blast working there since I could order pretty much anything I wanted and play with it before I sold it. I sold more lighting than anyone around. It was the one job where I looked forward to going to work everyday. Like a kid working in a candy store.
This is a link to an 80's playlist of a lot of the music I used to play.

We had the strangest clothes and hair but we had the best dance music. Disco was morphing into NRG with the invention of drum machines, Punk into New Wave into Electronica then into Techno which ended up being Trance. Hip hop and Rap were born.
Nice! That's the type of music I used to spin. I love the 90's trance mostly, with a few exceptions to various tracks in Hard style, Uplifting, Progressive and House. [Basically I am not a fanboy who claims to love "trance" but listens only to Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren [ASOT] and can't name any one else lol]. When I was in the Marines, I bought myself a set of SL-DZ1200 Digital Turntables and some crappy Japanese mixer and got pretty decent at just going back n forth from song to song, playing around a little bit here n there as far as "scratching" and other digital effects that most people let the computer do these days, and yet they get glorified for being a "great dj"

Graphic design I have been doing since 9th grade where I got to dabble in Photoshop and Freehand and Maya and other programs. I never got into Illustrator until college. I haven't been able to finish school and therefor most companies won't even look at me

I will make a link to some of my graphic design works and what not [they are all over the place, I should update my deviant art page lol]
Here is a link to some of my newer tracks and a lot of my older tracks. I literally just learned a better technique to mixing and equalizing so my newer tracks are light-years better in sound quality... I see some remakes in the near future! The album art on every track are my own, except Sentience.
