I'm trying to do a wooden coaster but am wondering what the best CTR is to use. I want something free and smooth. Something simple....but not sure. I've tried Timberliner and it's laggy. Any other suggestions?

I've tried using Timberliner and it wasn't one of my favorite tracks for the same reason you mentioned SimpleRate.

could try the wodan CT from the PEP set. it does lag a little when building but its fine after you leave the track editor
