WHICH is the best? RCT1, 2, or 3?

#1
Which one?

My favourite is RCT2.

WHAT is yours?

What do you like MOST about your pick?

I like mine because it is a step up from RCT1 with new scenery and stuff like that, but not in anyway near RCT3. Don't get me wrong, RCT3 is still a great game, but I simply like RCT2 better. Smile

RCT1 is the best in my opinion, yes RCT2 has more content however the scenarios are really lacking. I've recently come to this conclusion after really looking back on the series because RCT1 was literally perfect, whereas RCT2 has its flaws. (I might just be overwhelmed by feelings of nostalgia but the original takes the cake for me) RCT3 I put in its own category because personally I don't feel it can be compared to the original two, I prefer to split the series into two categories: 2D-Isometric and 3D games. The 2D obviously include RCT1 & 2, while 3D obviously contains 3 and soon will contain RCTW.

Out of the three I've easily put the most time into the third (simply because it's the last one in the series and I've played it fairly consistently since its launch whereas I stopped playing the other two for the bulk of that time). I definitely played two more than one, simply because I was obsessed with running the Six-Flags parks, however I honestly enjoyed the first one the most. I believe the reason that I was able to play three for soo long (mind you I didn't discover the online community or CS or anything until this year of 2015) was the fact that you can do soo much more with the 3D than the 2D Isometric.

@ChrisMDB, I can agree. Although, I haven't spent AS much time as you have on RCT3, but I might have you beat on both RCT1 & 2.
My brother and I worked on RCT1 for an insane amount of time, we managed to finish each and every scenario from the normal parks and Corkscrew Follies, namely Mega Park being the only one NOT finished. Loopy Landscapes on the other hand, wasn't completed although very close to be. Three parks are what caused us not to finish, as well the game disc getting a chip in it. Nevermore, Octagon, AND Woodworm Park we were never able to finish. Woodworm park, we tried over 10 times to win it. Tries included allowing the guests not to exit so we could stay over the needed guests amount, same goes for ratings. We lost several by 1, ONE, ONE you heard me, ONE rating/guest. We're not going to try to beat Woodworm Park at all.

As for RCT2, I haven't finished many RCT2 scenarios namely because I recently started a RCT2 series on my YouTube channel. In thus series, I am going to go over each of the (Original) scenarios. No real life ones neither. I have 3 series on RCT2. RCT2 Custom Capers: Where I download or make RCT2 scenarios to work with for YouTube. And RCT2 Blast From The Past: where I work with ALL RCT1 scenarios ported to RCT2.
Guess what that means..... yay.... Woodworm Park............................ I am....so...excited.... for it......................
I have created 20 scenarios already, and soon there will be a thread about a BIG scenario coming out on Christmas Day. Sneak Peek screenies will follow up until it is finally out. All rides will be normal, or from AmazingEarl's site. ALL roller coasters will be custom made and will be put into Build It! (IF they have not already). The name is either going to be 'Amaretto Gardens,' or 'Amaretto Palace.'

I am excited for the download to be ready. I am pumped! Hope you are too. :3

@ losing by one person, make sure you save every few in game months or so in case something goes wrong in your park so you have a backup to rely on, a couple times I just barely failed a scenario but I was able to simply load up a fresh save from a couple months back. As for what game is the best, RCT1 has vastly superior scenarios, however RCT2 has much more scenery and options for roller coaster design. In terms of playing for fun RCT1 is better, but RCT2 is much better for creating serious parks and projects.

@Rudy18, I see what you are saying. Currently, I am working on a huge project on RCT2. It'll be able to download on Dec. 25th. If not then, earlier or later. It's going to be big and awesome! I can't wait to upload it for you all! It'll feature NUMEROUS custom rides, and even more custom roller coasters that WILL be featured into the Build It! competition. (Some already have been entered, so the ones that are already entered won't be entered again. Wink That said, they will still be featured in the park).

RCT2 introduced the ability to raise scenery, which is the most important scenery development in the entire series, as well as the ability to raise rides so that they don't always have to start on ground level. In RCT1, buildings can only be made with the terrain editor. It may have some dull scenarios, such as Fungus Woods and Rainbow Summit, but it also gave us the scenario editor, so nobody has to play any of the premade scenarios if they don't like them. It caters much more to the casual designer than to the campaign player.

RCT3 took the series to new levels, but in many ways, it was a step backwards from RCT2. While the custom scenery possibilities are endless, the vanilla scenery looks terrible in comparison to RCT2's vanilla scenery. This includes the paths. Many of the roller coasters also look terrible without custom supports, especially the wooden ones, which in RCT2, will look at least passable with the vanilla supports.

For me, the two major reasons why I don't play RCT3. This does not include the fact that my RCT3 disc hasn't worked in years.
1. Excitement ratings and intensity ratings are severely lower, so non-CTR coasters have to be massive to generate excitement ratings that a 5,500-ft RCT2 coaster can give, but your coaster can have ridiculous G-forces and still not generate an unacceptable intensity rating.
2. The excitement-price ticket method doesn't even work in RCT3, so if you build a coaster with an excitement rating of 8.00, you can't charge 8 dollars for a ticket.

@Terry Inferno, you make a valid point. I plan to install some CS for RCT2, and ESPECIALLY for when my huge custom scenario comes out. Amaretto Gardens/Palace will be able to download by at least Dec.25th. (Christmas Day). That said, if it comes to finish before Christmas day, I will make a big post about it being released the day it finishes. Same goes for if I somehow MISS the date. I'll have it if I miss the date (Which WILL NOT happen), I'll upload it on Jan.1st, or New Year's Day.

There is more information about this subject on my recent post in the 'RCT Discussions' page.

Hope you enjoy it!

@ Terry Inferno - While you do raise valid points I never really cared much about the terrible looking vanilla scenery to be honest, nor the broken ticket charge rates. (hard to imagine when I was stuck with the vanilla game + expansions since their launch) The look of the game wasn't bad UNTIL I discovered CS, prior I had just accepted it as the game's style of graphics.

RCT3 will always be what I'm based on (unless I REALLY take to Parkitect, RCTW, or PlanetCoaster) however I will never stop playing the other two like I have in the past.

I think it depends on what you are use to playing. For me I started with RCT3 and I love the game. I've tried RCT2 and all though it's not my favorite, I see why people like it. I did try it, but missed the look of RCT3. Now the weird thing...I like Parkitect which is similar to RCT1 and 2. It's in the pre-alpha stage. RCT3 is so versatile in what you can do. I think it's a matter of preference and what you want to do as the creator of your park. Being realistic is a good thing, but also remember an amusement park is also part of our imagination but that's my opinion (not everyone agrees with it, which is fine Smile
I was disappointed with Roller Coaster Tycoon World, but I think in all fairness it's still to early to make a fair judgement. I'm also excited about Planet Coaster. I usually don't get Beta or Pre-Alpa games, but I've been tempted to get Planet Coaster as well. The price is a little steep so I want to see more before I invest that kind of money with it. Parketict was more resonable for the pre-alpha release.

Hard one. Probably 2 or 3, but I haven't played 1 in a very long time. I love all three, 1 for its legacy, 2 for the content and Six Flags, and 3 for its modability.
