The official release date for the PS3 has not been set but it is thought to be in
Spring 06 when Sony will fully unveil it in Japan. The release should then follow with the next couple weeks but a release date for europe and america may still be a long way away. The reason it may be at such a high price is because inside the PS3 Sony are using the new storage technology Blu Ray which is capable of holding around 50 GB per disk. It will be using a one core processor capable of running said to be around 4 Ghz which is much faster than most computers.
nVidia who make the Graphic Cards for playstation say it will be using the nVidia 7800 GT technology. All this put together equals a very high price :x

Thanks Cluno. I remember when the PS2 first came out. Stores couldn't keep them in stock and I remember in my Jr. year in college, our kicknig coach got his hands on about 10 of them and was bootleging them for 5-600 dollars. I didn't get mine until two Christmas' ago when the price finally came down. So I guess in about seven more years after the release date, I probably get one.

the ps3 is gonna be like $1000....sony has lost their mind....everyones going to flock over to the XBOX360....i want one but im getting a Revolution instead...oh well, i'll just rent it out

PS3 will probably be a great console for the 'next generation' games but as youve said it will most definatly cost an awful lot and then theres the games aswell, unless you get 3 games with the console like on PS2s :wink:
If i was going to buy one id probably either wait till it gets a bit cheaper (the obvious way) or order one from ebay! (even more obvious way)!!!

i'm going to get the 360 first ( i'll waituntil the price comes down though )
