RCT3 coasters running too fast

A strange, annoying problem which seems to occur mostly in parks where I've built an Aqua Blaster Slide.  The Slide works well, people are enjoying it, and I'm working elsewhere in the park when I get a message from the inspector that the slide has been closed because it doesn't empty into a pool.  I check the slide, ride it, and sure enough it is shooting you across the pool into the other side ....and all other coasters in that park are now running equally faster.  The only solution I've found is to save, exit the game entirely, restart, and reload that park.  The problem may occur again within a few minutes or it may never recur in that park again;  in my current project this continually happens within a few minutes of "unpausing" the game, no matter how often I've restarted.  FWIW, this is a completely stock game with no mods.

Any ideas what causes this or, more importantly, how to get it to stop ... permanently.
