Practice makes perfect.

To start off a raised area just hold shift and drag the mouse. Also in the path building window click on the pin and up comes a window, it is easy to use and is fairley self explanitory. Hope this helps.

which thing do we drag offf for which item?

Oh sorry, with the path brush on the ground hold shift to raise the path.
