First, can you post a picture of this ride? Press f11 in the game.
If you are using a CTR, that might be part of it. I don't know how in the world that could happen.

In RCT2, I've gotten a coaster with an excitement rating over 600.
The highest that I've gotten in RCT3 is around 9.10.

I built a coaster with 33. something excitement rating; its B&M Extended Track so I'm guessing that's why. As alex said, if it's a CTR, that might be why.
