Swiss Rockies Region To Host New Theme Park

At a press conference earlier today, County Comissioner James Balmer announced that the small area known as New Swiss Valley in the Colorado Rockies will be working with a new theme park company known as Shoque Enterprises to construct an amusement park there. This decission has come after the scenic area almost went into bankruptcy over the past few years due to weak tourism last year. "Simply put, people are looking for more adventurous vacations these days, and our small area doesn't have much to offer." Said Mr. Balmer during the conference. The area which is bordered by New Swizerland State Park is home to only two Hotels and a small town named Jessup. When it was first settled by five Swiss families in the mid 1800s, the area was known as a popular hunting resort for the West Coast; however, as time passed and the number of animals dwindled it became popular for people seeking silent retreats from their city homes. "With the opening of Relaxortation [the newest resort retreat] just over the mountain, people have no reason to come here." Mr. Balmer continued. "It's a shame, but we saw the introduction of the new theme park to be our only option to compete." The new company, Shoque Enterprises, will be holding a conference later this weekend. In the mean time, we have made this a special edition and included a phamplete of our staffs' favorite views of the "Old" Swiss Rockies Valley.

Groundhog Shoque Enterprises Press Conference Groundhog
[Image: 7820084416_bb130d4eca.jpg]

Shoque Enterprises welcomed press from all over the West Coast today to introduce their plans for the 'Amusement Area' they are now calling Bear Creek. The conference started with Commissioner Balmer introducing the team at Shoque Enterprises. "Although they are new to the area, Shoque Enterprises has been building RCT3 certified parks since the 'game' began,'" he joked. He then introduced Sean Palmer, current owner of the Palmer Inn, who was selected to also be area representative for the small corporation.

Sean Palmer with the two Mascots at End of Conference

"I'm pleased to be representing such a fabulous company," Mr. Palmer said, "And I'm even more excited to be introducing our plans for the Swiss Rockies' very own amusement park, Bear Creek!" Mr. Palmer was then joined on staged by a cuddly little bear named Teddy. "What do you say we show these good folks around Bear Creek, Teddy?" Mr. Palmer asked. A large screen rose out of the ground and began to show concept art of Bear Creek.

Bear Creek Rapids

"Bear Creek will feature rides that will celebrate the history of the West and the Rocky Mountains." Mr. Palmer stated. The two major attractions, as seen here, will be a river rapids and old fashioned wooden roller coaster, however a few minor rides will also be available. The rides will be built around the popular Swiss Rocky Locomotive tracks, so visitors should be advised that the scenic train will have a very limited schedule until Bear Creek opens during the park's soft opening in August of next year.

Fort Concept Art

Even after August, guests may want to wait a few months longer. The second stage of the park, a currently-unnamed fort, is scheduled to open with the Grand Opening of the park in June the following year. Another thrilling ride, as well as several themed shops will be located within the fort. Following this announcement, the crowd was surprised when the sleeping bandit they presumed to be an animatronic in front of them jumped up and started shouting "Ain't no way this'er gov'rments gonna build a fort on my land!" He took Mr. Palmer hostage but luckily for the old Inn Keeper, Sheriff Shelby (another mascot) arrived to save the day. After a short exchange of gunfire and the bandit running away; Mr. Palmer, Shelby, and Teddy bid the crowd adieu with perhaps more questions than answers.

Already the local community is upset that Shoque Enterprises did not choose to honor the Swiss heritage of the area. Although skeptics say that limiting the park to the Swiss heritage may also limit guest interest, "It's better to keep it broad and Western," said Sammy D'bois, a local traveler who's counting down the days until next August. Whether it was tactful planning or a very poor oversight, we can guarantee that the Swiss Rockies are about to get much more exciting.

The small town of Jessup w/train station at bottom.

Local residents are baffled as most of the land and buildings of Jessup have been purchased by several different individuals. "I was surprised to hear them offer so much," said Jonathan Greene (Jessup home owner), "for that old shack? I simply couldn't refuse." Several rumors are already spreading, one of which claims that Shoque Enterprises is hiring individuals to buy land for them, a tactic used by the Disney Company to keep central Florida land prices low before building Walt Disney World. Another suggests that wealthy investors simply want to build vacation homes closer to the developing amusement park. Recent reports can neither confirm nor deny any of these claims.

Groundhog Bear Creek Opens Groundhog

The much anticipated amusement park, Bear Creek opened today to around 300 guests. The area of New Swiss saw an increase of visitors from just 250 guests/month to a little over 300 in one day. The park is free admission, however, tickets are required for the rides. Tickets can be purchased at the New Swiss Lodge, Palmer's Inn, or underneath Arrowhead.

Parking Outside New Swiss Lodge

Guests who haven't traveled to the area within the past year were surprised to find improved parking outside the New Swiss Lodge (Part of the New Swiss State Park.) The new lot was constructed by the Shoque Enterprises team with shared funding from both entities. It only has spaces for 44 vehicles, however, so guests without ADA needs are requested to park at the central New Swiss State Park parking and catch a shuttle which will carry them the rest of the 15 miles to the park. Upon closer inspection of the lodge one will see just how closely Shoque Enterprises is working with the State Park, as the lodge has been decorated for the grand opening.

Helicopter View of Bear Creek

The New Swiss Times was approved for special access helicopter tours of the park during the soft opening ceremony. Here is the park in it's entirety, which includes Arrowhead (a wooden roller coaster), Bear Creek Rapids, The Bears Den viewing galleries, and two types of rental boats (canoes and rowboats.) In the foreground of this picture is the employee parking garage.

Teddy in the Bear's Den

Children will squeal with joy when they find the huggable Teddy in the Bear's Den. The park has several little nooks and crannies like this one for the youngsters to explore. The Bear's Den is also home to a small snack stand selling drinks and chips, as well as the amusement park's only restrooms and first aid station. It seems fitting since it's in the middle of it all.

The Arrowhead Eatery

For when the growling you hear isn't the live grizzly bears in the park, Shoque has provided a large counter-service restaurant underneath the Arrowhead station. It also houses the valley's largest indoor picnic area. Guests are allowed to bring their own food into the park.

The unnamed fort currently under construction

With three-story fortress walls blocking the public's view of a red mountain, it's no wonder that excitement has started to stir. The unnamed fort that Mr. Palmer mentioned during the company's first press conference a year ago borders the state park land and could possibly be the official entrance way into Bear Creek. Locals are excited to find out just what's inside those walls during the grand opening next June.

New Swiss Lodge Stage

You may remember this stage from the Shoque Enterprises Press Conference a little over a year ago. The stage and costuming building to the right were just the first of many joint ventures between the New Swiss State Park and Shoque. This stage, funded for by Shoque Enterprises is not only equipped with an projection screen that rises from the ground, but also is easily changeable so that the State Park can host many events there. Everything down to the benches can be changed. Another example of the two parks cooperating on a new field was the purchasing of the entire town of Jessup. You may remember that different individuals were buying the town. They were indeed agents of the both parks. Together they are going to transform the rundown town into employee housing. The already existing Jessup Train Station makes this plan the obvious remedy for lack of housing nearby. Employees of Bear Creek moved into their apartments just one week before the opening.

VIP Update 1

Cool Hello everyone, my name is Andrew Simmer, and I won the ultimate prize this year- to be the VIP Guest spokesperson for the Swiss Rockies Region! So every now and then I will be taking you on a tour in pictures of the park on my blog. So let's get on with my first day's visit to Bear Creek!

I was unfortunately unable to make it to the first day of the soft opening, and severe storms in the area kept the park opening for the next few days, but alas I was finally able to go yesterday. Here's what I found.

I first grabbed a park map from the Ticketing and Information Booth inside the New Swiss Lodge.

When you first walk into the Bear Creek area, this is what you see. Live bears are on the left, some cowboy singing home on the range cooking (or should I say burning) his lunch on the right. Further up is the Bear's Den and Arrowhead which flies over the pathway.

It was a long ride, so we decided to stop and get something to eat at the Arrowhead Eatery and picnic area.

I was so excited about Arrowhead that I headed in that direction, but just before arriving I spotted the Bear's Den across the street. Teddy was walking around and greeting guests. We found out later that the snack bar there has really good trail mix.

Then the moment came.. I rode Arrowhead!

(For some reason no matter how hard I try, the title is messed up- sorry)

I was completely surprised when the rock at the end quickly disappears behind the other rocks before we slammed into it!

I then rode the Bear Creek Rapids, however, I'll have another update on that later. For now, here's some night pics.
