Soaked! Did I accidentally ruin my game?

#1
Hi,

Ok, I'm not a computer genius, but I do know a little bit about some things. I found a link to this:

http://www.putmeonthenet.net/content/old...index.html

from custom scenery depot. I then found something that said custom pools and something about recolor-able pool pieces which instantly intrigued me. Although, when I downloaded it was a software sort of thing. As I said before I'm in no ways all knowing when it comes to techy computer stuffFrown I think I installed the software and it popped up a box that had check-boxes that said: invisible, fence, pool path and path supports. I checked them thinking they would become optional in the game (custom scenery or something of the sort). I then clicked a button that siad install and it did. Now all the fences, pool paths and path supports are invisible and not the way I thought they would beFrown Nothing is recolor-able whatsoeverFrown I don' know what to do......
Has anybody ever used this and know anything about it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Smile

Here is a screen shot of what I mean what went wrong in the game:
They are supposed to be walking up a pool pathFrown

When I tried Spices Custom Pool Pack I had the same problem with invisible paths instead of the scenery I was expecting. If you’ve backed up any folders you changed prior to installing this set you haven’t ruined your game. Just take out the folders you’ve changed and put the backed up folders to where they came from originally.

I have since discovered with other similar sets that do work that any pool add-ons do not show up in the menu one would open to build pools. Pool add-ons will be found throughout various menus just like other CS that’s not pool related. There are several other pool add-on sets available you can use instead of hurting up your head this one.

I’ve never heard of CS coming with software enabling or disabling options during install, although sometimes really huge packs will come with an installer. If CS comes with an installer I will install it on another disk, do a file compare with a backup copy of the program files game folder that I made before hand, save the added files and add them that way to my game on my RCT3 disk. That way I know just what’s gone where and can keep a record should something go wrong.

The whole point in the invisible stuff is so you can dress it up all fancy with custom scenery. What did you expect when it said invisible?

I haven't ever made any back-ups. I just play with the RCT3 disc in the drive and then save them on there...... I didn't just mean I ruined a specific game/park in general. When I start a new sandbox, custom scenario, any old game I have done, they all have invisible fences and pathsFrown When I opened up the thing that says pool installer it doesn't have like an undo or delete button.

If you've never made any backups and whatever you do in the game you are having this problem then you need to find some way to track the files this installer has added and remove them yourself. This solution may not be a good one if the installer has deleted certain files to make way for the ones it has placed.

Another option is to go to Control Panel, open Programs and Features and see if Windows lists an option to remove the install Hopefully if the installer has removed anything it's been put in another location from where the uninstaller can replace it while it's uninstalling. If you can't find any uninstaller in Windows your next step should be to download a free third-party uninstaller but I think if Windows can't find an uninstaller chances are a third-party uninstaller won't either although I would recommend you try it – it just might find something to uninstall.

Backups are handy for problems just such as this. Your backup would have enabled you to remove the entire folder that you believed stuff had gotten installed into and replace the folder you no longer want with the one you backed up and you would have been able to do this without an uninstall. Backups are also good if you upgrade to another machine or your existing one dies from exhaustion and can't be revived. Should this happen all your files will already be in your backups ready for you to use after you reinstall the game.

A last resort option would be to save to a safe location (back up) your parks, custom scenarios, structures, screenshots, anything you yourself have created in RCT3 and to uninstall RCT3 and then reinstall it. As far as I know an uninstall won't remove these files but it's always better to be safe should something unusual happen.

It's a good idea to back up all your RCT3 files at least once every several days, or every time you spend several hours on the game.

You need to see where they're going, or put a bunch of people on the path, and build a pool complex with scenery objects. Or you can just lay out the pool with them.

It would be nice if the creator of the Pool CS set would call it an invisible set rather than have those of us not-in-the-know believe it's a regular CS set that's gone wrong. It would definitely help Alex if, like you suggested we could see where they're going. Now I understand why some of the invisible sets come with alternate textures in case we need to see the invisible pieces - it's so we can see the invisible pieces during placement but before switching the textures back so they'll be invisible.

That's also why you keep an "RCT3 Stuff" folder so you can put your backup files in.
