RCT3 Custom Scenery Installation "Issues"

#1
I have created some custom scenery and have used RCT3 Importer tool, which is working just fine.

But I have an issue.

When I click the Install button in RCT3 Importer, it says it successfully installed the theme. And when I run RCT3, my stuff appears in the game and I can use it.

But I am trying to upload my custom stuff, and send it to friends, but when I look in the Style/Themed directory (where RCT3 Importer supposedly puts these files), none of my stuff is there - so I did a search in the entire Rollercoaster Tycoon folder in program files for the names of my stuff - and not a single result came up.

How can my stuff appear in game - when it's nowhere to be found on my whole computer?

I have also looked in the AppData folder, and also in Documents/RCT3/ but nothing's in there either.

Any ideas?

While I have no experience in creating CS I can help with file input. If you are opening the game and using the scenery then the scenery you’ve created has been imported successfully. Are you looking for your scenery by the name that the file has in the program files folder (correct way to search) or by the name it displays as in the RCT3 menus (wrong way to search)?

The items wouldn’t be imported to Documents\RCT3 or AppData. They’d be imported either to Themed, Cars\Tracked Ride Cars, Tracks\Tracked Rides, or possibly one or two other folders dependent on if you've created supports, paths or pool items.

The only other suggestions I could make would be to restart RCT3 and see if the files can be found after that. Until restarting RCT3 it’s quite possible, depending on the 3-D application you’re using and the way your system is set up, that the game is accessing your scenery from a temporary folder on your system pending a game restart.

Thanks Flight. The places I'm looking for my custom Path covers is C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Rollercoaster Tycoon Platinum\Style\Themed which is where people say the themes get installed to but there's nothing there - only the default stuff like Tarmac paths and Asphalt paths are there. I have looked in every single RCT3 folder but none of my stuff is there. I've done a full search on my computer for the filename of the Path covers that I chose and nothing has showed up. I don't know how they are appearing in my game when I can't even find them on my computer.

I've encountered your problem too,

I assume when you click "Install" button, this error will appear:

I also assume that you just ignore it, which is right

To fix this problem you must select Desktop
[Image: er2_zpsf165966e.png]

Then when you're finish, take a look at your desktop, there's a folder appears
named "Style"

Click that folder.
When that folder opens, there's a sub-folder inside it, which is named "Themed"

Open it, and you'll gonna see your Custom scenery!

all you need to do is Cut,Copy and paste it to your true RCT3 Directory
Default: C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed

Note: FlightToAtlantis is right, you can't see your custom scenery at AppData nor Documents/RCT3

Thank you!

AzoRctMan has shed a very bright light on a possible scenario.

I’m sitting here thinking, ‘Oh, that’s why Toothpaste can’t find it, he was searching particular folders and not his system,’ but I re-read your post and you said you searched your whole system. If we assume that you’re experiencing the same issue as AzoRctMan then this is very interesting for two reasons:

1. It might appear that RCT3 is using scenery files from a folder on the desktop. I wonder how this is possible. Azo, did your game use the scenery files while they were on the desktop or did you need to move them before they appeared in your game?
2. I still can’t understand how Toothpaste’s search utility couldn’t locate the files if they were on his desktop. Were the files actually located on your desktop, Toothpaste?

My answers are:
1. I move them before they appear in the game. It's impossible to play with CS if that one is on the desktop. It only covers the Style/Themed in the RCT3's installation folder.
2. Maybe he didn't use the Search Index in his computer. Because Search Index are very fast when in comes in searching something. But I don't know if he have Windows 7. I think that feature only in Win 7

Oh thanks so much guys... Sorry about the delay, I fell asleep. That's a very good point you made about the Search Index, I completely forgot that I only had certain parts indexed!

I have like a "working directory" that i use when i'm creating things like custom scenery called "RCT CS" and "Textures". I didn't realize, but when I was clicking the install button on RCT3 Importer, it was actually installing the two files into my RCT CS folder!

Yes congratulations, Toothpaste, on your first CS.

I have Windows Vista and XP but I enjoy the convenience of indexing with a third-party search utility.
