I have just downloaded a custom track and I understand where it is supposed to be placed once that is unzipped but after I download it and go to unzip the file it is in a DAT File and it has a set of 3 of these 05.dat, 05(1).dat, 05(2).dat

Where do I go from here?

Delete the ones with the 1 and 2 after it.
