I am at my wit's end trying to load CS. I choose the CS I want, and hit download, click the file and drag it to Style/theme folder(under the already loaded building sets that come with RCT3 Platinum) I go to RCT3 to start the game, when I choose a CS I just installed, I get that god forsaken SVD FOR SID error! ZI have followed the instructions from a few and nothing happens. I have changed the Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum to Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 but not sure if that helps or hinders!

Don't drag over the top unzipped folder. Go into that folder and drag out the folder that is in it.

The folder you want will contain one or more folders plus two OVL files.

With the ones you already installed you can drag the folder you want out into the themed folder then delete the empty folder. If you don't take care of this now every time you click on that improperly installed CS in the game it will crash.

This makes it look like you're not extracting the files first although I'm sure you're doing that. Also it's a good idea after extraction to look inside each folder to be sure the structure inside the folder is correct. It can be safely assumed that if there are no installation instructions that it could go into the Themed folder but to be certain always be sure and look at the ReadMe if there is one.

Don't be too sure of that! LOL! I do not know what I am doing when it comes to extracting, obviously! I need step by step directions of what to click so I can put files that I want into RCT3. I downloaded Shy's Main Street sets 1-9...problem there a few freezes the game and I have to restart the game! Am I doing something wrong that they are not ALL opening right? I downloaded them the first time and Set #9 worked fine then it stopped working and froze or I got the svd for sid error message

A .zip file was compressed by Windows. A .rar file is the same exact thing but was compressed by 7Zip or WinZip which are interchangeable when it comes to opening .rar files. A CS file with any other extension has been already unzipped (decompressed) and needs to go somewhere in particular.

All files need to be decompressed before they can be used by RCT3.

Thanks FTA, Frankedj for your help! I am trying to download eeZee- WDW Castle..when I load it it freezes...so that means I have to decompress it and then place it in RCT Style/Theme? I will check out those links!!! Thanks guys!

You should undo what you already did to stop the game from crashing before you do anything else. Take the eeZee- WDW Castle out of your Style\Themed folder.

If you can take a screen shot of your Themed folder and post it here showing how the eeZee- WDW Castle is before you take it out. We need to know if it is a folder or a compressed file.

With compressed files you should be able to right click on it and select Extract to... whatever folder is the file name. Then you go into that folder to get the folder that you want that has the OVL files and file folder(s) for the CS in it.

Yeh, 7Zip is very versatile and convenient. In addition to .7z files I’ve used it to decompress .rar files. .Zip files it will unpack effortlessly at about a 95% success rate – very very occasionally there will be a .zip file it won’t unzip right but you’ll get a message telling you that there’s a problem.

A quick look at Frankedj’s link shows that 7zip is capable of unpacking some 30 different file types.

7Zip also allows browsing of compressed directories and selective decompression of what’s inside. Oddly, the application supports dragging out of archives but does not support dragging into archives. Not being able to do this is not life and death but perhaps one day I’ll figure out how.

OK I deleted eeZee's WDW Castle and WDW Inner Castle...sorry Frankedj, deleted before I read this. I downloaded eeZee's WDW Castle/Inner AGAIN! This time I clicked the folder and it showed 2 folders...one for WDW Casstle and one for WDW Inner Castle. I clicked on each and they both had the different items AND it had common and unique.ovl folders so I put them into Style/theme...Let me check to see if it crashes...

...OK, I just checked it and the WDW Castle sets from eeZee are working great! I don't know what I did differently this time but its working! I did download 7zip...does that do whatever it does to the files automatically?

When you download a compressed file with the extension of .zip, .rar or .7z you have to right click on it and select Extract to "your filename". It will make the folder in the same place as the compressed file. Then you go into that folder to get the folder you need.
