I spent about 20 years as a night club DJ and I DJ'd in the largest club in town on New Years eve 1999/2000. The very first song I played after midnight is one of my favorites. "If you could read my mind" by Ultra Nate, Amber & Jocelyn Enriquez from 1998. The song ties together the 70's, 80's and 90's. It is also performed at the end of the movie "54" which is about Studio 54, the most famous night club there has ever been.

The original ballad from the 70's is by Gordon Lightfoot. Remade in the 80's by Viola Wills. A lot of others have also done the song in different genres.

Most popular songs in every genre usually always have quite a few different extended club remixes of them.

Good older Rock... Loverboy, Greg Kihn, Billy Idol, Aldo Nova, Boston, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Boston, "Crosby, Still, Nash & Young", Doobie Brothers, Journey, Metallica before Lars ruined Napster. The Police, Genesis, Alan Parsons Project. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, The Cars.

I'm a walking encyclopedia of music from the 70', 80' and 90's and I haven't listened to the radio in about 30 years.

It’s been awhile since I’ve turned on the radio but the last time I listened I was crazy about Waiting All Night by Rudimental and White Noise by Aluna George.

My CD collection is not quite so recent:

My favorite groups are Blue Oyster Cult with my favorite album, which took me years to track down on CD, being Club Ninja – everything on this album is fantastic. Then there’s their album Cultosaurus Erectus with favorite track Fallen Angel. Albums Mirrors, The Revolution by Night, Spectres and Agents of Fortune are terrific. One of their albums has no name and on it is a spooky track called Then Came the Last Days of May – I won’t mention what it’s about in case someone chooses to find it and listen and to tell would be like telling somebody the end of a film before they see it.

My next favorite group is Cheap Trick with favorite album, which took me not quite so many years to find, Standing on the Edge with favorite track of the same name plus another track Little Sister).

I also like the groups Boston and Chicago. The best track Boston ever did was Get Organ-ized along with other tracks Higher Power, Don’t Look Back and a track The Star Spangled Banner/4th of July Reprise that is unbelievable.

As a matter of fact if you want to blow all the cobwebs out of your head pick a thundery lightening day with a lot of wind, open all the windows and doors and very loudly play Get Organ-ized from beginning to end. After that the inside of your head will feel like it’s been washed through a car wash and then dried through a wind tunnel.

Bill Paul’s album War of the Gods is unusual but good listening.

There are a plenitude of Christmas compilations to listen to over the holiday season but since it was released I don’t feel it’s Christmas yet until I hear Mariah Carey sing All I Want for Christmas is You. Another favorite has been Vanessa Williams singing Through the Eyes of a Child, and Placido Domingo has released some moving Christmas tracks.

None of these titles or artists is recent but I do enjoy them.
