When you say it hasn't "shown up", do you mean it doesn't play, or it doesn't appear in the music list. If it doesn't appear in the list, make sure you have the option turned on. The file must be .wav as well.

How do you do that anyway? I have no idea.

Windows xp (and I think vista) has an audio converter built in. Right click the file and select "convert audio".

Does the rename thing work?

I VERY highly doubt that renaming the extention of the file from mp3 to wav will make it work. They are different forms of compression. Being that wav is not compressed, and mp3 is.

You can use a free program like Audacity to convert your mp3's into wav files. I know there is also a way to do it with WinAmp. I was not aware that XP had it built in. Are you sure you dont have a program installed that gives that option?

Good luck!

The music files in the My Music/RCT3 folder have to be .wav files to work. The pre-made music in the game are the same file types. Just copy and paste the files into the folder and it should work once you get into the game. It worked for me today. It should work for you.
