what makes a coaster a 'good' coaster?

#1
I am trying to make some good coasters on rct3 but they usually come out looking very generic and bland.

what do i need to focus on when building a coaster to make it look good?

here is one of my first proper coasters i have made. i spent ages doing the supports and they still suck. i do have other coasters that are complete but i havent recorded them

What makes a "good" Coaster? -> Well i think your "Titanium" is a good Coaster Smile

The Questsion should be, what makes an "grand" Coaster?
If you ask 100 people, all 100 would say different things what makes a coaster looking "grand".
So that's the first thing to know.

To build an really good looking coaster in RCT-3 its good to know that in RCT-3 original Caosters are look bad all the time, so the second thing: use CTR's to have more options to build an track layout as smooth as it possible to NL-1 (NoLimit-1)

These are the basics Tongue, the importent thing is, well suprise suprise, "practice". Yeah "practice"!
The first coaster that you/we are all build, were totaly crap.
Its normal, but the 100th coaster that we build was way better than the first try, right? Smile

But some little Hints (maybe helpful):

- use CTR's (more track pieces/variations)
- learn to terraform the land/ground around the coaster (play with the ground-textures)
- watch tutorials/lets plays (Silvarret and others on youtube)
- watch PoV's & Pictures from real Coasters to learn how the support work is going
- learn to build Scenary with CSO's (only trees around looks boring)
- take your time, work not to fast, step by step Smile

After an while you getting better and better from alone Wink

Cheleste said it all – this is a very good coaster. Chances are while building it you were so focused on it during construction that you had become jaded to your work after it was done.

You’ve terraformed, you’ve painted the terrain, you’ve thoughtfully used custom supports and have included footers. The track is constructed nicely and I particularly like the station you’ve built.

Your video is unusual in that it provided aerial views of the coaster before the on-board view. That was quite nice except I’d recommend you halve or even quarter the amount of aerial view before on-board view. You did a good job of moderating the effects in your video.

The only other thing I’d point out is something you might not yet be aware of. If you name a guest David Walsh and then press CTRL + U you can remove the user interface for filming or screenshots.

thanks for the replies. guess i just need to practice building more complicated stuff and get more creative to be happy with what i make.

i have tried using the cheats in my game before but they never seem to work, although i never tried the one that removes the icons from the side

I guess it's annoying to hear it, but practise makes perfect. And I know this sounds stupid, but try copying other people's stuff so you know how certain things work. Once you've figured that out you can always move to a more individual, unique style.

Anyway though, subjective. Everyone likes different things, just make sure you like your own coasters and you like building them, that's what's going to take you far in the end. And don't think so bad of your coaster - it's indeed not that bad at all!
All we need is somebody to lean on.

This is true. Even when the best artist copies someone else’s masterpiece he doesn’t end up with just a copy –he produces a fresh version with a different take.

First of all, shut up about the bad coaster. It isn't bad. It is a unique design, and deserves to be in the hall of fames of coasters :P. But, if you are going into VERY detailed RCT3 work to make stuff look SUPER REALISTIC, then maybe cut down on the metal supports a bit.

For a cool one, you could use the way I build coasters:

1.Build Track/Kill Supports
2.Brakes/Catwalks
3.Station/Lift Hill
4.Supports/Footers
5.Trees/Terraforming

Some recommended CS Sets:
Station Jim's Fencing, Station Jim's Gardening (1&2), and the B&M support connectors!

I always use CTRs. For B&M coasters I use CoasterJoe's B&M Connectors. For Intamin coasters I use Megacoaster Track Connectors. For all supports I use Moby's Steel Jungle. For footers I use CPCisco's B&M Footers. That's about all I use.

And what extent are these infos about the CTR/CSO use to do with an "good" Coaster?

The CTR/CSO's are useful if someone want to make a realistic looking Coaster, but a Coaster can be "unrealistic" and "good", too.
There are people outthere they use "Steelworx" and there supporting can look better than other ones "mobys steeljungle" supports. So it doesnt matter which cso/ctr's people use!
But some CSO/CTR's are, well lets call these "basic-stuff", exspecially the connectors/footers for the coaster-types.

Importent thing in my opinion to build "great" Coasters is "skill/talent".
Example for talent is "Silvarret", he has an amazing talent for architecture/building Wink

@chimalion70005:
- a few links are broken down, so pls dont post links when they wont work!
(the name of CSO/CTR & Google are enough to search/find these)
