RCT3 Custome Scenery Creator

#1
Ok, I am very curious what is the most used software for creating custom scenery? I have been learning sketchup but am starting to figure out it may not be the "standard" for it seems to only allow for things like walls and cubes and stuff like that. I want to be able to join the team of guys creating all kinds of stuff like windows, fountains, ride events etc. I know about Blender, but that looks like I will have to take a full blown course to learn how to use it, if that's the case I am willing to but if there is easier one or if anyone knows of any tutorials for learning how to create RCT3 stuff in Blended any info would very help and greatly appreciated.

You can do tons of things with sketchup, including a station set for wingrider coasters. (wink wink) Wink

To get some idea of some of the things needed to make CS take a look at this post:

http://forums.rctgo.com/thread-7313-post...l#pid82983

SketchUp vs Blender ….. hmmm ….. the bottom line with creating CS is that while SketchUp is intuitive to use the free version comes with only some of the features the paid version has and even with the paid version eventually you’ll become limited with what you can do in SketchUp as opposed to what’s available in Blender. Blender comes only in the full version and it’s free. While it has a steep learning curve there are hundreds more plug-ins for Blender than for SketchUp and Blender can do much more than SketchUp. Eventually you’ll find with SketchUp that when you’ve completed scenery you’ve got hundreds more polys than anticipated and all these additional polys are next to impossible to ‘convert’ out using either SketchUp or another application. When Blender is used knowledgeably excess polys are something that’s not a problem.

It seems you’ve already noticed the limitations in Sketch-Up so if you’re switching to Blender (a wise choice!) I’d recommend version 2.49 as I’ve noticed in my internet travels that there is much more available for download to add on to it than the other versions. Blender versions older than 2.49 are not recommended.

As a matter of interest RCT3 models for use in SketchUp can be converted for use in Blender.

As far as this or that tutorial being the tutorial, there is no such tutorial. Here are my suggestions how to get around this:

Good luck!
