What kind of changes would you like to see with the build it competition?

#1
I do realize that the Build it Competition is to have fun, but I would like to see a few things changed for the competition. Here are my suggestions. Please add yours to this thread if you want to.

Please note: also like having the Build it Competition. I think it's a great chance to see what other people can do with their creativity. I am amazed at what some of the users can do in this game. I put this post up so maybe if people see it and the suggestions other users make, something might change. (not necessarily by Justin, but the users themselves who like to participate in the Build it Competition).
1. I think 1 screenshot is not enough to show someone's entry. At least 2 with one showing a close up shot of the roller coaster itself.

2. A video for all entries would be an additional help, but I do realize that not everyone may be able to do this.

3. I see some great designs, but some seam to be unfinished upon entry (unless I am mistaken).
*I guess I would like clarification on what is considered a "finished" entry. Lately, I have seen rc entries with not a lot of scenery and screenshots that don't include a close-up of the rc itself.

4. I would like to see this competition remain fun for everyone. But everyone has a different opinion on what fun is. Also what a "finished" entry would be for the competition.

5. I wish there was a better way for users to enter into the contest. I see so many times someone wanting to enter, but then aren't able to for one reason or another. I know there are only 4 spots. But in the last few rounds I've read about certain situations happening. And, this is why I think the way people enter the competition needs to change as well. Not sure how this would be done.

6. Voting - not sure how to change that. I just have noticed some comments about it.

I know this has been kind of a debate lately. So maybe we should list more things we'd like to see or not see for the build it competition. And, who knows, then things might be a little different with it for everyone.

Meant with respect and kindness,

I think people take it way too seriously, and some people complain every round. it should be changed, but if people don't like the build it round then they shouldn't comment.....

I fully agree with you "aecrouch7413" in anything!

Well, the joining problem on each round can't be solved easily. Everyone of us lives in a different timezone.
So it doesn't matter which change Justin would do, some of us had still problems to join if the start time for the competiton is midnight in the middle of the week.

Only my suggestion would be to raise up the time for vote. Because othe sites use much larger time periods on there competitons. So the actors have way more time to work on there project.
The result is that 98% of the creations are great.

Exactly the opposite of this we'll seen here often. Infact of the short time between each round, the creations are rather low.
But if the people become more time to work on it (no one has the time or passion to work every single day on his project), than the creations could become more quality.

Maybe only "one" round each month could be an option. Or "two" rounds every month. That's still enough.
And most of the time we see the same members again and again. With an expanded time in each round, there is enough time for new members to check the competiton out and create something for a future round.

I understand what you are saying about the time zone issues. So I don't know how that would be resolved. But I do like your suggestion about extending the time between competition rounds (if I understood that correctly). Smile

there is nothing wrong with how it is run now, people just need to stop wasting entries with half-assed and unfinished projects. if people actually put effort into their projects and waited until they were complete and looking amazing, build-it would be a much better competition

^^^ Agree with the suggestion above.

I feel some entries are rushed and feature no distinctive theme, idea or overall creativity. Holding a round every two week would leave more time to think and complete a coaster. Adding to that, I suggest the members entering a round of the Built-It may not be allowed to enter the next round. That might seem like unnecessary complications, but it could just foster new members to display their creations. In other words, we would still get 2 rounds per months, but each member may only enter once per month, hence a further incentive to polish their work.

Having said that, the Build-It competition is essentially a very good event which helps keeping interest in the game. It just needs to fix its current shortcomings.

Hope my suggestion has been understood Tongue
