Newb here!

#1
Hey everyone!  New here to this forum, and to RCT.  I just took my kids to our favorite place in the world a few weeks ago, (Disney World) and came home inspired to build my own amusement park.  Decided to get RCT3 Platinum, and needless to say it's been slow going.  I spent two three hours on my Toshiba last night trying to figure out how to download and install CS, and was finally successful with the Bulldogs ATM machine lol.  Oddly enough it showed up in the facilities icon, which was not where I had read it would show up.  However it is totally within the realm of possibility that I screwed up and just got lucky it made it into the game anywhere lol.  So as you have probably figured out by now, I will be asking a lot of questions, but from what I have read you all seem super helpful and informative.  I look forward to this game taking up all my spare time for the next year!  Thanks again.

Hi, and welcome to the site, it's good to see another Chris on the forums lol. If you have questions or want feedback just feel free to post about it. As for your CS problem some items will come with a ReadMe file when downloaded. They usually have instructions on how to install the CS, CFR, or CTR you've downloaded. The directory for most CS on Windows however is: This PC > Windows ( C: ) > Program Files (x86) > Atari > RCT3 > Style > Themed. I hope this helps, I'm not sure what OS is on a Toshiba computer.

Yea I think I am on XP, and I downloaded the game through steam so my directory was a little different but I figured it out.  I think.  Logically I decided I wanted to start this new challenge by terra forming the map.  But this has proven to be slow going as I am a little clunky with the tools.  But I will get there.  My idea is a central coaster park, enveloped by some safari area, waterpark area, and a beach resort area.  I look at some CS and some of the regular stuff in the game as well and to say there is a wealth of resources would be an understatement.  One step at a time though.  Need to conquer the landscaping first lol.  Any pointers??

For landscaping, make sure you use the land smoothing tools , they're very useful for making a landscape look realistic, and also use a variety of similar land colours, as well as hills and valleys
If you're going to do foliage, of course a wide variety of trees is needed (For the vanilla set I mix Douglas Fir, Holly, Hazel, Pine, Oak and Apple)
Also make sure you include ground shrubbery or ChrisMDB will be all over you for that

Ha okay. Good to know. Once I figured out how to extract files and upload them into RCT it was already pretty late. So I was half asleep trying to make a beach. I used the canyon (?) tool and put it on the widest brush stroke. That seemed to be somewhat effective for creating a beach. Any ideas?

I'd honestly just experiment with everything and get a feel for it before jumping right in. As for CS I suggest not mixing it with vanilla scenery objects. It can be done but generally there is a large contrast between the two and it's quite er... immersion breaking for lack of a better phrase. Speaking from experience - it may be more tempting to just jump in and try making realistic stuff right off the bat, but my ten years of experience has taught me that it's much more effective at first to just mess around with everything: terrain tools, scenery, ride types, everything.

Hi and welcome. I would be happy to help as well with any questions you might have. There are also a lot of tutorials on YouTube. If you are running XP I would check compatibility. You can do that by right clicking on the icon go to the tab where it says compatibility. You should see a list. I did see one for XP, but you need to check what service pack you have. I took a screenshot of it...

I am running the program on Windows 8.1 it can run slow sometimes, but I try not to have anything else running in the background. I hope that helps a little bit. Also most people get there custom scenery at the Custom Scenery Depot http://www.customscenerydepot.com/
I hope you have lots of fun and I look forward to seeing your projects. Smile
