The 25 Very Best Build-It Coasters

#11
A few RCT3 entries that I would include in my list...

Uprooted by MrNozem77
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13987
This guy has built some fantastic indoor coasters, such as Galaxy Quest and Ta-Seti, but this is the finest of them all, and well-deserving of its victory. A beautiful outdoor fantasy landscape brought to life within a massive building, this is one of two brilliant indoor rides to win this competition. His finest work available on this site, however, may actually be the dark ride Gargoyle.

ALIEN: The Ride by OffbeatToaster
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16306
Fitted with spaceship doors, flawless out-of-this-world environments, and even a movie clip, this (mostly) indoor blitz coaster would be difficult to beat in any round. With a layout that matches the scenery's level of quality, I would even go as far as to say this is the best RCT3 entry we've seen in the past year.

Matterhorn Bobsleds by arsachols
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16001
Dual-tracked coasters are difficult enough to build on their own, but building one in a tall, condensed space in a mountain of rocks would not be an easy feat. To appreciate the level of detail put into this, one must carefully inspect both the screenshots and the POV. In a close round, this narrowly stole a victory from one of the best RCT2 entries of all time.

Vandal by Colts18to87td
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/12252
Only a handful of inverted coasters have been victorious within the past four years, and if they were all paired up against each other, this one would be the winner in almost every category. Built on a beautiful seaside landscape, the well-supported layout flows beautifully around the natural-looking trees, shrubs, and rocks. While nazmakhan's Lyndvior may rival it in the scenery category, it suffers from the "nazmakhan curse": elegant scenery built around an unnecessarily fast layout. Not to mention Lyndvior doesn't thread the lift hill through a loop.

Tropical Storm by Drew_

So much foliage. How could I leave it out?

And some 3D entries not made in RCT3...

Hyperspace by theisaac
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14486
This psychedelic Eurofighter is what happens when you combine a roller coaster with a rave. In this case, the gene splicing was successful.

Cotton Tail by ctg614
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15111
Adorned with colorful flowers and realistic cypress trees, this old-fashioned woodie generates plenty of air time through its aptly-named bunny hops. This is the most natural-looking NL2 winner, featuring a layout that goes hand in hand with the landscape.

Gangplank by ChrisMDB
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16077
The first half of this coaster is exciting enough, with those massive drops and subterranean tunnels, but the high point of this ride may actually be the second half, with its smooth, high-speed airtime hills. Planet Coaster must have miscounted; there's no way this ride only generates 1.7 seconds of air time.

Quote:Surprised you picked Rogue One over all of Terry's other entries (it's rather weak in comparison in my opinion).

Now I have to see your list.

^Terry nice list! Also Rogue One I just connected with the most as I am a HUGE Star Wars fan.
I'm useless, but not for long, the future, is coming on

These are both very interesting lists. Only Slurp has a few interesting picks, that I don't normally think would end up on a top 25 list. Quite a few goodies there though.

Well Terry, since you've asked, here's my top 25:

#25 - Gangplank (ChrisMDB)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16077
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StCrO3idoos

I know this is my own, but that's the reason for why it's #25. I personally feel that it's worthy of a top 25 spot simply because it's the best Planet Coaster entry (and winner) we've had thus far on the site, and for that reason I believe it deserves a spot on this list. Naturally it isn't ranked higher because I'm biased towards it and therefore cannot properly rank it.

#24 - Parthax (ChrisMDB)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14525

The first ever RCT1 coaster to win the Build-It! competition, that counts for something right? I think so. I've ranked it at #24 because of my bias towards it, and again just as in the case of Gangplank above it's on here because I feel the best winner from each game (that has a winner) should be represented on this list.

#23 - Zephyr Mines: Legends of the Gulch (DiarugaCoasters)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/7802
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPx1s4WMVkE

In my opinion, this is a rather impressive entry. I don't believe I've seen a better winner from the early rounds, and it's even more impressive considering CSO's and CTR's/CFR's were still in their infancy at the time this was made. It may not be the most thrilling ride there is, but it is a great Mine Kart Coaster.

#22 - Mirror's Edge: The Ride (BrandonMarks94)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15429

Great concept, although I've never played the game so I'm not sure exactly how much it relates to the game (I do know there's parkour though). Regardless, the amount of effort put into the scenery on this beast alone must have taken hours of work. Great work with this one (again) Brandon, the coaster turned out great and garnered a spot in my top 25.

#21 - Oklahoma Rodeo (Terry Inferno)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15056

I may have given it a hard time during the round it was entered in, but in hindsight it is probably one of the better (if not one of the best) woodies to have won the contest (from a 2D standpoint of course).

#20 - The Old Mill (Blu)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/12794
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1DV2iorhYE

A pretty good RCT3 made by Blu before his retirement, although there are some obvious flaws such as the improper support connections, spots where supports are supposed to be but there aren't, clipping foliage in a spot or two, and of course the endless plains. None of this is me saying it's bad mind you, those are simply the things that prevent it from being ranked higher.

#19 - Legacy (Colts18to87td)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/9353
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vvMtdepHMA

Pretty standard B&M Floorless here, but executed very well. The coaster flows very nicely and has excellent pacing through the inversions.

#18 - Hyperspace (theisaac)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14486
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jYc8812...e=youtu.be

Very good dark ride section, although the rest of the ride is far too dark to really see what's going on. There's also a banking transition at the end of the ride that will snap your neck, therefore keeping this at the bottom of my top 20.

#17 - Paranormal Asylum (Terry Inferno)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14262

A very nice, compact, lay-down coaster in RCT2. The scenery work is (or was) top-notch for standard RCT2 work and the theming complemented the round nicely considering it was around Halloween.

#16 - Wildebeest (Drew)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13802

I've gotta hand it to you Drew, this is a pretty darn good B&M. Congrats Meme-Man!

#15 - Whirlwind (TheMaxster)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13353

Rounding out the top 15 is Whirlwind, which as you can see really starts to up-the-ante with the CSO work.

#14 - Impetus (LetsPlaySumJames)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13593
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jATn8cEELh8

Scenery work: On point - Layout & pacing? Not so much... This is probably one of the prettiest coasters to have won the contest, although once you ride it you realize just how unrealistic it is. For an RCT3 it's still pretty darn good though.

#13 - Oasis Frenzy (SupraTheHedgehog)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15500

If you thought the remainder of the list would be 3D entries then think again, we still have plenty of 2D entries left to help round out the top 15, and Oasis Frenzy was one of the first to really start pushing the limits of scenery work on OpenRCT2.

#12 - Phoenix (BrandonMarks94)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16344

Easily one of the best 2D Woodies to ever win the competition, here's Phoenix. Scenery work could definitely be better (not saying it's bad, saying there could be more), although honestly, it looks like this is a screenshot of a finished section in a park.

#11 - Matterhorn Bobsleds (arsachols)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16001
https://rctgo.com/videos/watch/1193 (POV)

I personally don't think it's good enough for top 10 (there should be a background that isn't endless plains for a top 10 spot), but hey, 11 out of 260 something is still pretty darn good. Watch the POV before you prematurely judge.

#10 - Tropical Storm (Drew)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14735
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wlnDzOSEqQ

It took some digging to find the "lost" POV for this Drew, lol. Welcome to the list for the second time though Meme-Man. (congrats on top-10 status by the way Wink )

#9 - Hurricane: 5 (Rudy18)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13002

I'm personally not a huge fan of this coaster (not sure why honestly), however; Hurricane: 5 is objectively one of the best RCT2 winners we've ever had.

#8 - Lyndvior (Nazmakhan)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/12532
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtDkaRsTNIM

Pacing-wise this coaster is quite fast, other than that though this is probably one of my favorite RCT3 entries that has won the competition. The scenery is absolutely fantastic, and the layout stays true to B&M's standards.

#7 - El Grande (BlazingEmpireHD)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16405

If there was a "Most Improved" award on the site I'd hand it over to you in a heartbeat kid, the work you're doing nowadays is simply fantastic in OpenRCT2. The amount of innovation you, Supra, and Terry have brought to this site alone with regards to RCT2 is commendable and you three have truly helped bring RCT2 entries into the forefront of current competition. Here's looking at you, kid! (also did I mention this is among your best work yet?)

#6 - ALIEN: The Ride (OffBeatToaster)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16306
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhT6XMavIx0

Fantastic dark ride, and really helps to show what RCT3 is capable of.

#5 - Neptune's Fury (LetsPlaySumJames & Toofpikk)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/12643
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgc1PzAQaCE

This is likely going to be controversial, but I don't believe this is the best entry we've had in the competition thus far. Again, this is my opinion, and it very well could be the best, but this is my list so my ranking.

#4 - Industrial Force: Reloaded (Terry Inferno)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16232

Terry, you've succeeded at something that I literally thought impossible for the longest time, you made an Air-Powered Coaster that won. The scenery work is absolutely fantastic, and you've managed to raise the bar on RCT2 entries.

#3 - Railgun (Silvarret)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/11852
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TkvC96Zs4

If you know me, you knew Silvarret was going to make a showing on the list. This isn't his best work, however, it's among the best coasters to have been entered into our competition. "Fire the Railgun"

#2 - Cave Crusher (SupraTheHedgehog)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16186

I personally think this is the best 2D entry to have graced our competition thus far, fantastic scenery work, fantastic custom support work, and great terraforming. The surrounding coasters hurt Cave Crusher a bit, but considering where it was made I can forgive that.

#1 - Uprooted (MrNozem77)

https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13987
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vbDMF86SIE

Nozem's last entry before his retirement was by far his best, and I believe it's the best to ever have graced our competition. 1/2 dark ride, 1/2 coaster, Uprooted began as an idea inspired by a novel, and translated into a beautiful coaster.

So here's my top 25, notable coasters that would have made my list had they won are:

Alterran (BlazingEmpireHD) - The ONLY attempt we've ever seen at an RMC in RCT2, and it turned out pretty well.
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15994

Golden Dragon (Terry Inferno) - Fantastic scenery work here.
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15827

The Space Race (NaveIsAwesome) - Sorry again man, this one really deserved a win. Quad duelers aren't something you see every day.
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14040

Wilhelm1407_Coasters - Take your pick of this guy's work, it's all fantastic.

Chris, I want to see you place your top 25 RCT1/2 entries on here. (Winners and non winners)

Actually, I want to see both you and Terry do that.

@Blaze - Alterran would be somewhere from 15-20, Golden Dragon in the top 10 probably, and The Space Race would be 20-25 (it makes the list because of the track design, although its lack of scenery is really what keeps it from being considered for a higher place). Wilhelm has a lot so I won't be listing them lol. I could do another one just for 2D entries, but did you mean to basically just include any on the site?

@Nave - Track design was on point.
