The 25 Very Best Build-It Coasters

#21
Here is my top 10 for RCT2 entries, excluding my own because I can't objectively compare them to those of others. You'll see why in my subsequent top 10 list.

10. Flowing Fury by BlazingEmpireHD

The scenery choices are bit odd and definitely on the simplistic side, but for what it is, I wouldn't necessarily say that it's incomplete. The three that I left out of this list are, in some way, incomplete, and this one edges ahead of them.

9. ROAR! by NieSch
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/11119
This has one of my favorite twister coaster layouts ever, and there's no chance I would have ever built Spyder had I not been inspired and impressed with the design of this ride. As a standalone downloadable track, this is the winner in the RCT2 category, and few would disagree with me here, as it has been downloaded more times than anything else on this list. It's difficult to compare every aspect to it to those of the other coasters, which excel in other fields as well as layout, so that's the only reason it isn't higher on the list. I still think it's beautiful.

8. The Fourth Dimension by SupraTheHedgehog
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/14944
The first winning coaster built in ORCT2, the most notable feature of this coaster is its custom support job, specifically the use of Egyptian blocks as footers. With over 13 seconds of air time, X2 has nothing on this exciting layout.

7. Caution II by BlazingEmpireHD
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15216
While the layout is very unusual, the black and yellow paint job with matching scenery somehow pull it together. Scenery highlights include the brake run supports, the walls surrounding the brown path maze, and the bulrushes that are there just for me.

6. Mirrors Edge: The Ride by brandonmarks94
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15429
Another twister coaster with an unusual layout that actually works in its favor. The atypical banking techniques, combined with the structure of the building, would make this an unpredictable and therefore very exciting coaster experience.

5. Hurricane: 5 by Rudy18
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13002
One of the most difficult challenges most RCT2 players face is creating terrain that looks realistic, and this is an early example of a RCT2 coaster that's both terraformed and foliated very well. For any RCT2 players looking to create a pirate-themed area in future parks, this is a great starting point.

4. Phoenix by brandonmarks94
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16344
While a bit more work could have been done around this coaster, it still doesn't seem incomplete. This woodie has a stunning layout, built amongst various buildings and rides in a realistic park setting. An extra grassy knoll really isn't hurting this coaster.

3. El Grande by BlazingEmpireHD
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16405
Even though this uses much more CS than any other coaster on this list, it uses it well; those vibrant flowers make this setting pop like a Warhol painting. Built in a realistic and lively park setting, this coaster excels in every category. The only puzzling part of this coaster is why the test track is built directly above a road.

2. Oasis Frenzy by SupraTheHedgehog
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15500
Beautiful buildings, a custom support job, and a catwalk built from a path and a mini golf course, this level of detail remains largely unseen in this competition in any game. Even features that we barely notice from the screenshots--such as the splash boats threading the loop inside of a building--were included. Nothing was overlooked when building this, and that's rare in this competition.

1. Cave Crusher by SupraTheHedgehog
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/16186
Everything that can be said about Oasis Frenzy is true for this one as well, but I put this one just ever so slightly ahead of it because of the steps taken to make the environment look like a real park. The paths are laid out strategically so that the ride can be seen from many different angles, while the shrubs and rocks give the creek a more creek-like appearance. My favorite detail, however, is the use of impulse coaster track as corkscrew supports. The only questionable scenery choice was the tree placed directly on water, but nobody else noticed that.

Of the three coasters excluded from this list, two of them seemed unfinished, and the other--Jungle Run--has too many of its own flaws to make it onto my list. Shootout looked like it was entered mid-construction, while Povoat seems rather random in every category.

Honorable mentions that did not win:

Alterran by BlazingEmpireHD
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/15994
One of two RCT2 attempts at an RMC this competition has seen by the same builder, this one is far superior and one of the best RCT2 entries ever. It looks like an RMC, the terrain is suitably rocky, and most importantly, foliage is abundant.

Krait by Rudy18
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/12848
Possibly the earliest RCT2 entry to feature both realistic terrain and appropriate foliage, this family bobsleigh coaster could have easily won had it been entered in a more recent round. However, that's difficult to determine, as it played an instrumental role in gaining momentum for RCT2 players and allowing several subsequent entries to win during a time when they never did.

Freischütz by Cheleste
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13065
A recreation of a German coaster, this one uses advanced vanilla building techniques, along with 8-cars for the tunnel, to replicate this coaster and its environment as accurately as possible.

Phantom by Rudy18 (collaboration)
https://rctgo.com/downloads/view/13318
This coaster is stays true to its theme, and at the time it was entered, it was one of the most complete RCT2 entries that had graced our competition. While I did build the station for this coaster, as well as most of the buildings in the background, Rudy was responsible for the concept, the layout, the terraforming and painting, and most of the spooky foliage, so I consider him the driving force behind this coaster.

Flight School by NieSch

Only NieSch can come up with something so innovative and make it so simple. This is why we love you, NieSch.

I will make a list of my own winning entries soon so you can see how I feel about them. Right now, however, this post is long enough as it is.

Now it is your turn, Chris! Top 10-25 RCT2 entries!

I'll do mine eventually....I also like how I think El Grande could have been better, yet you all seem to love it. Odd.
