Is AGP really dead?

#1
I just had some loon on the Atari Europe forums just slam all AGP systems. In his words, they are old and slow. But who hear has one? Well, count me in for one.... But how many users feel that their AGP PC still has many more miles left in it?

Again, I think that the move over to PCI-E is very expensive, and unless you buy something close to top of the range, no real performance gain is achieved over a once top of the range AGP system...

I for one bought the best I could for my PC, just before Socket 478 CPU's / Mobos and AGP vanished of the face of the earth (Well, maybe off the shelves at PC stores). Costing about £1000 to build back then, it could quite comfortably take on a PC of similar price today...

PCI-E has potential, is a great platform, but at the moment it's overated. no game really benifits any more anr any less than one on AGP, so as of yet, I still don't see the point...

So, what's everyone else think?

I never had a APG (The younger generation here), so I wouldnt know the difference.

btw, Its not only PCI-E, its any PCI in general. PCI-E is just the laptop version (E = Express)

Ive always had an AGP card, and it hasnt really bothered me.It'll probably do for another 2-3 years then it will be obselete.Comp Companies will use PCI Express as standard....i agree, it is the way forward, but there aint much difference between Top-Range AGP's and PCI, FOR THE MOMENT.The next PC i buy, i will make sure is a PCI Express though, just cos everythings going that way.
