Game crashes when loading scenery/rides

#1
I have problems with the game crashing when I try to use rides (the hammer) or some scenery (sci fi plants). I also get a lot of drag when it is night.
I have RTC3 Gold.
I contacted Atari 4 times and never heard from them. Tried to download patches, but it says it can't find Retail version on my computer. I attached my dxdiag.

Any help is appreciated. I love this game.

First off:

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE graphics card:
Because your are running vista allot of the graphics memory is going to the looks of of the menus, side bar etc. If you have the AERO theme enabled with the trasparency youll find that other programs can become laggy or even crash.

RCT was released as an xp or lower program so there is no support for windows vista. Also NVIDIA have kindly stoped supporting there lower end graphics cards with vista so its very hard to get and updated driver.

Your processor (Intel® Pentium® D CPU 2.80GHz) is a problem.
The requirments that RCT ask for is:
Pentium III 733 MHz lowest

Yours does not meet the requirment so this is likely to be causing the crashes as its pushing its limits to run the game.

Saying that rct does open up and load so its capable. Try closing programs such as the internet, msn, yahoo, firewalls, windows side bar ect so more of the cpu is avalible for rct and if you have areo enabled change it to the basic theme.

Wow. That is a wonderful explanation. Thank you so much. I just purchased a new Dell computer, and they only gave me the option of Windows Vista, which I didn't really want. I am going to call them and see if I can get something else instead. Vista is okay, but I am not really comfortable with it.

thanks again. I am not sure about the aero theme, and will have to figure out how to change it if I need to.

I have found that some games revert Aero back to Aero basic when running full screen. Unsure if RCT 3 is one of them. As mentioned above closing things not needed when running games is a good idea.

The Pentium D 2.8Ghz well exceeds the minimum of a P3 733mhz processor so there should not be much if any slowdown caused by this. Most of the slowdown, especially at night is due to your graphics card and game settings.

Have you looked at posting on the Frontier forums? They might be able to assist with the problem. The only thing I can suggest is making sure your display drivers are upto date, nVidia Vista drivers (32bit) for your card, the latest release is 1st June 2007.
