I know this is a really old thread, but if anyone buys RCT3 and has this problem, they might click on this and I want to clear this up once and for all. Sorry if I come across as patronising, I just know this is a really frustrating problem, and I want to make it as easy to understand as possible.
The way scenery is accessed in RCT3 is by the game following a directory path, requested when you click on the item of scenery. When it follows this path, the game says "This is where all the scenery is stored. Is this item in this area?" and the directory tells it "yes it is", so the game has no problem and uses it. So all CC needs to be placed in this area. I assume you know where this is if you are getting the "No :svd for :sid" error.
The problem here is that most designers keep everything neat and tidy by placing it all in a folder. This creates a problem because it adds an extra layer to the directory. So when the game asks "is this where its meant to be" the directory says "no" because theres an extra file name.
The way to solve this is simple. If you open up the CC file, there will be another file inside it. If you then open this, there should be two ovi files and another folder with all the ovi files for the CC. You need the file that contains the two Ovi files and the folder with the CC inside it. Take it out of the useless folder (the main folder that everything downloads in) and put in on your desktop. Then delete the useless folder and place the new folder with the useful stuff in it back into the "Themed" folder. Congratulations, you've now removed the extra file and can use this CC in the game.
Note: Some designers are wary of this problem and have very kindly removed the extra file, so always check before you start deleting files. For example, JCat's steelworx doesn't have an extra file. However, most other popular CC sets like ATHCatwalks or Moby's steel jungle do have the extra file.
I hope this helps anyone with this problem. There are some videos on youtube, but some of them involve downloading software, and some of them change the directory of the in game scenery, which really just takes a lot longer. Some people even go so far as to change the coding of the game so that the extra file isn't rejected, but that really isn't necessary.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be thorough.
