Outer Space Coaster?

#1
Hello all,

New here, but have been with RCT3 for several years. Here are a few of my creations:

Return of El Diablo

Robot Rock

Caribbean Coaster

While waiting for TPS and RCT4, I'd like to get one last coaster built... but in space. In order for this to happen, I feel I'm gonna need to figure out one or two things about the background environment of RCT3.

1) The best option would be change the skybox, but I haven't seen any CS dealing with this issue. Does anyone know how or if this can even be done?
2) Another option, for at least another planetary environment, would be to keep the ride running at night. This is difficult for longer rides, however, as the dynamic weather keeps the day/night transition active and it changes within just a few minutes. Does anyone know how to pause the night sky during a POV ride to keep the stars out?
3) It would also be great to create a 360* view of the stars, but this might be the most difficult. Is it possible to remove the terrain or make it transparent? I've tried to build huge rooms of Old Spice's Star Walls, but the forced cubical layout of RCT3 assures a "box" must be created, which becomes quite obvious once inside, due to the perspective and relatively small size of the map.

I haven't tried my hand at any CS, but if someone could point me in the right direction, I might be able to figure out how to import an enormous black globe, textured on the interior with star scenery.

Thanks so much for any ideas! This is my inspiration: Astro Canyon Coaster

1) I may be wrong, but I don't believe that's possible. Well, I bet it's possible, but you will probably have to be a programmer and know <HTMLX> computer language.

2) directly to the right of the time speeder-upper buttons, there should be an icon that looks like a half sun half moon. Left click on it and three options should come up. The sun means always day, the sun/moon means regular day and night transitions, and the moon means always night. This helpful for dark tunnels and such.

3) jcat's space workx is a great way to create space environments. The set comes with space walls and a space mountain style building, planets, tie fighters, and even a dalek. Mgp also has dark walls, but I don't remember if they had stars. Another good set for space stuff is imagineer john's animated tubes.

Hope this was helpful

Thanks for the reply!

2) I honestly haven't been in-game for a year or so but remember the sun/moon icon only affecting time when you're out of POV. If I recall correctly, nothing can be done in-game to stop the passage of time once you enable POV and ride a ride...

3) I've thought about using walls and CS to help create a space-y environment, but I'd like an actual out-in-the open coaster that could loop around asteroids and such. Walls and tunnels can't make this happen Frown

2) check again because I remember it working last time. But I could be mistaken.

3) there will still have to be floors, because there is no space ground texture.
Maybe you could take the walls and "coat" the outside of the park and film from the inside. Like in stratales's butterfly two, there is no external shots because of all the different coasters and camera effects. Basically instaid of deceiving rct3, you could diceive camera perspective and the human eye.
Hope you understand,

Just installed the game to double-check: the sky does in fact change during a POV ride. The whole night-sky sequence only lasts a minute or two, whether or not the slow-transition to day is enabled or not, or with any of the play, ffwd, pause, etc buttons pressed.

I’d recommend getting Spice’s Planets CS if you want your coaster to zoom around planets and space stuff.

There is a city scape sky-box set and Old Spice makes a Tree Lines sky-box set. As far as I know those are the only scenery sky-box sets available. You can try the black boxes that come with the Miscellaneous Objects CS set.

In RCT3 the ground will never turn truly transparent as it did in RCT1 and RCT2. I would recommend you find the Miscellaneous Objects CS set and use the black boxes that come in it to enclose your park. The black boxes are truly black and you will notice no perspective or distance once you’ve placed them and you’re Jonny Watts looking around.

To give the appearance of no ground start with a completely level park and raise the black boxes so their bottoms are slightly above the terrain. That way you’ll have a truly black terrain up through which you might want to raise some ‘islands.’

Then there’s the sky to deal with. The black boxes are three-sided so you’ll find them versatile to place. In order to blot out the sky you might want to raise the black boxes high enough so that their bottoms block out the sky but I don’t know right off hand if they disappear if viewed from beneath.

Brilliant! I didn't even think of using the black walls... I do in fact remember them having a completely void appearance in-game, with no light reflection or perspective at all.

I could then use some particle stars CS (can't remember who made these) to fill out around the edges of the giant black box. It won't look totally realistic, as the stars will appear to be much closer than if they were a backdrop, but it might create a cool effect, nonetheless.

Thanks for the brainstorm... I'll start on this ASAP to see how it looks.

Yeh, either that for the stars or some randomly placed CS lights.

I was searching over the internet yesterday and came across some great sets for my own download. During my travels I came across these and thought you might be interested:

Laser CS is on this page:

http://rct-3.org/files/category3-rollerc...n-dächer/

A Black Hole Set is available on this page:

http://rct-3.org/files/category3-rollerc...et/images/

Ralfveih’s Sci-Fi CS and Big Black Wall sets are here (scroll through):

http://rct-3.org/files/category3-rollerc...n-dächer/

The Diagonal Black Wall set is here:

http://rct-3.org/files/category3-rollerc...lack-wall/

It seemed such a shame to simply forget I viewed all this CS during my travels and not tell you about it.

You could also consider L33's Studio Walls Set which comes with walls black on one side, for those who want a dark ride inside a building. I know this set does come with roof pieces that are black on the ceilings while the roof side looks like structure CS.

I also came across another set that included space themed sky-box walls and what was described as a hugh sky dome of stars big enough to cover an entire park but although I thought I downloaded it it never showed up during file processing and isn't in my download manager's file list. I'm afraid I have no idea where to locate it now.

Correction - not Miscellaneous Objects set but Markus Terrain Pieces set.

Oh man, this would be perfect! I'll see if I can dig anything up myself.

Thanks so much for the links!

Finally! I've come across that scenery pack again. You can find it here

http://www.customscenerydepot.com/test/i...?item=1972

It's MGP2300's Backdrop Set. This webpage will take you to MediaFire where there's another link for the actual download. I have yet to attempt a MediaFire download that doesn't work so you shouldn't have any problem.

And here's a video you might want to look at for some great ideas:

Good Luck
