When ever I try and build water transport I put in two stations like it shows on the tutorial. I try and test it and it says there is no route bettween staions on water transport 1. It happens with all 3 types (air, paddle, boat). The boat just comes out of the sation and turns around and goes back in to the station.

You have to build a station on one place, then click the Start a New Segment of Track at a New Position button (found at the bottom-left of the Construction panel menu, with a Station icon and a star) to build another one through which the boat will pass too. This means they have to be from the same ride and not two different ones. If it still says there is no route between them then there is probably some other obstruction in their path.
