I know of an easier way to do it and it actually works. If you have windows folder options (you can find it in the control panel) set so it doesn't hide known file extensions, you can simply rename the file extension from "screenshot.[bad image extension here] to screenshot .jpg and it will be a jpg with the same pixel information and size as the old format. You can change any image file to any format you want this way.
